Epic´s solution to cater to casuals is in creative [Long post]

To this day, there´s no doubt epic´s number one priority are casuals, after reading (and having some common sense) Ex Blizzard dev take on the topic i completely undertand them yet i don´t think they are aproaching this in the right way. Mostly because we all now that being annihilated by the mech isn´t fun for anyone (low tier, medium tier, high tier, pro tier players). I honestly think the answer is in creative, having public lobbies and reward the time spent on Creative with stats, xp reward and BP stars. Most casuals feel like a waste of time spending 1 hour in creative so this would help to make them feel they are achieving something.
To give a little perpective on why i think this would work:
1.- There´s a video of Bugha playing with a girl, he asked her if she watched the world cup and about Fortnite Comp scene she literally said she didn´t care, she played only to "grind" challenges for the BP, i think we all have friends that play fortnite only for this reason, they care more for the Renegade Raider, Dark Bomber or Ultima Knight rather than Patch Notes, Comp Scene etc.., to be fair, we all once were like this, i remember fearing getting pushed by Dark knights, Skull Troopers, Jhon Wicks, Omegas back in the day, and the highlight it was to eliminate them. So in few words casuals main reason to play fortnite are BP skins, v-bucks and keep track of the item shop.
2.- Yesterday i played some Paladins with my GF (I chose Paladins cause i knew Fortnite would be so alienating for her), she never played videogames before so she doesn´t even know how to use a mouse for gaming neither a keyboard, but Paladins have this bot training mode which you can play, have fun, get kills and still have rewards for your champ, BP and level, she actually felt like she was achieving something, she loved that and wanted to keep playing till she feels ready for normal lobbies, something you don´t have in Fortnite (I think she practising builds and pvp against me in creative would only make her unmotivated, TR is an option but for someone who can´t even aim properly is still a tough experience, Paladins has some easier champs that need little to none aim (Ash, seris)).
With that being said, Creative should have more stuff added, give xp, bp stars and overall having stats so people won´t feel they are wasting their time, weekly public lobbies (i imagine being one for PVP, One edit course, One aim training, One King Of The Hill, One FFA with no building, One zone wars and one random map, could be mini BR, Prop Hunt etc..,) which will have their own challenges some examples would:

Pvp lobby:
- Do 500 damage with a shotgun weapon (2000xp)
- Win three rounds (5BP stars) (imagine it being best of three or something like that)
- Place 100 builds in one round (5000xp)
(Quick mention that we all would love a ranked pvp, you could have your stats and having a SBMM, this always motivates people to improve)

Edit/building Course:
- Spend 1 hour on an edit/building course (10 BP stars)
- Finish an edit/building course (2000xp)
- Achieve bronze medal in any edit/building course (10 BP stars) (the ones that have this option)
(This would be even more helpful because of how dumb the actual missions/prestiege are)

Aim training map:
- Spend 30 minutes on an aim training map (1000xp)
- 1.- Hit 50 targets with an assault Rifle (2BP stars)
2.- Hit 50 targets with a smg (2BP stars)
3.- hit 50 targets with a shotgun wapon (2BP stars)
- Hit a moving target with a sniper (5 BP stars)

King Of The Hill:
- Be the King of the hill (10BP stars)
- Play 10 KOTH matches (5BP stars)
- Do damage (0/500) (2000xp)
(Would love to see these, i actually love these lbbies on MVC 3, would work with the spectating sistem)

FFA/TDM no builds:
- Eliminate 10 opponents (5Bp stars)
- Do 500 damage (2000 xp)
-Win a match (5BP stars)
(Casuals heaven, no need for tilted town it could even go further and be an actual LTM with mini BR maps)

Zone wars:
- WIn a match (10BP stars)
- Eliminate 3 opponents with a shotgun weapon (5BP stars)
- Play 10 matches (5000xp)
(More practice for the all time forgotten mid tier players but still would be nice to have it)

So i think you might got the point by now, most of this would be either fun (FFA/TDM/PH/Deathruns) or good practice (Pvp/courses) for casuals and the fact that there would no longer be a "losing time" feeling for them, bet they would be grinding without even noticing. You would help medium tier aswell, and pros could have their ranked modes.
There´s no need for mechs, swords and all that stuff when you have creative.
Love the game but lately been having more fun playing other games (Apex, Paladins, TF2, CSGO) and my mental health is better, we as a comunity want to keep playing Fortnite, almost everybody here is trying to voice their opinion in order to save the game, feels harsh to get ignored, after a week not playing this, coming back was fun, but i understood Fortnite is not an 5/8 hours a day game for me anymore, no need to grind with the devs treating us how they are doing, no need to get better, no need and no fun (mechs, proximity grenades, traps doing150, heavy sniper) at least playing it once a week you don´t get that triggered, unmotivated.

My Teenage Gambling Problem (summary and tl;dr on the bottom)

Hello, I am a 16 year old with gambling problems. Started gambling at around the time I discovered TF2 at the age of 12, started trading out of boredom and several months later I hit 10 dollars on my in-game inventory. I was super hyped out about it because my parents won't allow me to buy anything online, this includes games too so me being a 12 year old I was just super grateful about it. I continued to trade just to get more and more until one day, somebody in a random trade server decided to giveaway an item worth 47.5 dollars IF they manage to trade the gifter first. What do you know nobody believed in him in the first 10 seconds but I just sent him a trade notification, he accepted and I was psyched beyond believe as I just got an item worth more than my allowance in 6 months around that time. So with 48 bucks I decide to finally (FINALLY) buy two games, CSGO just because its a very popular new fps game at that time, SR3 because I forgot to buy GTA IV instead.
With the remaining money, I decide to spread the keys ( TF2'S item currency ) for in game items and such to invest, a few bad decisions on trading I managed to turn 30 dollars of items in 2014 to 10 dollars of items in 2015. To top it off I got scammed by a raffler that i stupidly believed, he was raffling this 150 dollar unusual and all i had to do was to enter all my stuff and invite people to enter his raffle so ME, I can win that. It was like the holy grail in my desperate eyes and brain, I was like screw it and I immediately traded him the items and I leeched off a lot of people in my steam friend list (almost 200). What do you know he is still in my friend list after a few weeks but when I confronted him he just uses shit excuses and unfriend me.
And now I have nothing else, burnt out. So in the mid emergence of CSGO Website gambling, I watched a lot of CSGO Youtubers, with that too ALMOST all of them are sponsored with CSGO Gambling websites and they offered 0.5 dollar worth of website balance and they all said that I could "win" hundreds of dollars if i gamble it smart. So I tried almost all website and obviously I didn't win any crap, and later I searched for gambling websites with free referral codes and there was this one website that was basically roulette, just with the 1x, 2x, 5x, and 50x system with a 1 dollar referral code. Entered it, wasted 4 hours non stop and what do you know. I just won 100 dollars, yep that's right a 100 fucking dollars. Seems like a minor win but I was never allowed any allowances for online game items, top it off with a shitty 2GB GT 210 Rig that is probably worth only 50 dollars in 2016. I was shocked and happy as fuck, in my mind i was like I could finally buy all the things I wanted, TF2 Unusuals, expensive CSGO Skins, and a lot of fucking games. But, there was only one stop. The one stop that would ruin me and scar me for life, the deposit restriction. All I had to do was deposit 10 dollars, 10 fucking dollars. So I asked some close friends if I can borrow their items and I promised them I will return it double the amount, long story short on that scenario I got betrayed because nobody wanted to because they are scared they will get scammed (even though i am their IRL friend). After feeling betrayed I decide to gamble it all away, the 100 dollars I earned in 4 hours all out of luck, from 1 dollar. After taking considerably big losses, a guy by the username of Adolf Hitler added me and given me some advice on where to place the bets on a sunday morning. And the advices were pretty much shit because I just lost it all in 10 minutes, I immediately unfriend and blocked him off steam and I just stared blanky on the screen, not knowing what I have done. My mind was racing to hell, and I don't even know anymore. 100 dollars was a lot to me even now in 2019, its the kind of money that my parents would probably get a heart attack if I asked them for that amount of money. And this is where all it began
Fast forward to late 2016, my growtopia crap finally is worth something and at around early 2017. I sold off a total of 40 dollars amount of growtopia items to CSGO items, i held these items for three weeks and all of the sudden I get a relapse again, the fucking gambling relapse. So I returned to that website, with only 0.3 cents worth of coins. I deposit ALL of my csgo inventory items, it was around 60 dollars with the inventory having my previous giveaway win that was worth 15 dollars and some left over birthday money i guess. And in short, I lost it all again, this time I have the urge to commit suicide. I actually hit my head a lot of times and I almost sliced my wrist, it was a mental breakdown really. Loneliness in school coupled with this is just very unhealthy for the mental health. I was still in mental breakdown so I decide to go to the second floor porch and sit, just sit and look into the sky to what I have become. I was once a grade A student until depression hit me at the very young age of 9 due to a lot of bullying, my grades drop hard and fast forward to the mental break down I was having. I was just looking at the sky again and I decide to watch on youtube on help for gambling addiction, I denied it for 1 and a half years and now I have seen everything, people struggling with debt, depression, alcoholism, all because of roulette. They are all adults and I am only 15 at the time, so it was time for me to change. I didn't get any significant grade increase by any chances but I got happier at least, and I finally stopped gambling. Then after all the the gambling drama with my self I asked my dad again for the last 3 years to buy me a new computer, just this time I asked seriously and he just straight up said no with a straight face. This is where I hit depression real hard, no gambling involved now but good god the depression can't be covered up anymore. I was a dead man walking really and finally my holy father noticed how depressed I am and offered me to search a new PC with him. My face went lighted up and well It was a long search ( almost 6 hours ) but finally got the perfect deal with a full rig for 400 dollars, it was an upgrade I have been waiting for. The seller sent it to us after 1 hour of transaction, I don't know how my dad convinced him to send the item by himself but oh well. After the new PC purchase I became a new kid, no more grim and edgy feelings, just maybe a little morbid and weird but never too edgy. My grades didn't went up anyway and my mother was disappointed but I am now a reformed man, promised myself to not get depressed anymore and (I didn't since that day)

Now, it's 20 October 2017. And it's my birthday (Hurray!!), came to school expect nothing but maybe a couple of greets and surprises here and there. Went to my friends class to tell them about my birthday and they said happy birthday to me, standard stuff. But suddenly one of my friends named Been just gave me a present, a present that actually saved my life. It is a 20 dollar skin, a goddamn skin I shit you not. I was super fucking excited and man, I want to hug him but tbh it's kinda too early for that so I just said thank you a million times. After schools over I went home and cried, none of my friends had actually gave me that much money for a gift. I just adored the gift he gave for a couple of hours, looking at my screen and looking at that shiny skin, oh good lord so many trading potential but I hold it off until 3 weeks later. I asked him if I can trade it and he said go ahead since its mine anyways.
Now it's late 2017, finally got it to around 30 dollars. But I just discovered an exploit on a TF2 trading website with bots that pretty much made me to 100 dollars in short. After getting that sweet sweet cash I cashed it out of paypal and there I am, redeeming my self of years of hurting myself from gambling. I cashed out that 100 dollars worth of TF2 to 87.78 dollars of IRL money from paypal to my dads bank account and I bought an used keyboard( Corsair Strafe ) and a used headset i got for 35 dollars (Sennheiser PC 360). And after that cash out it seals my gambling addiction and my journey from trading, now I live a happy life as a student, a normal kid. If i counted it right it would be almost more than a year without gambling now.
Writing all of this took me 40 minutes, but it was the best way to let it all out man. Gambling addiction is very serious especially if you start at the young age, I hope you all taught your kids to be aware of these stupid gambling websites because it may just ruin their lifes. Got very emotional writing this but it was well worth it. I know no one will read this goddamned essay for sure but thank you for taking the time to maybe read the summary, have a good day folks and I hope you all can overcome your personal problems.
tl;dr : started to play and trading in video games, lost all the items and got into gambling addiction thanks to youtubers advertising gambling websites alongside irl problems, lost all the referral money and then lost money that I earned and almost killed myself, overcame all of that just to go to depression again. Bought a new PC after dad realizes and then gifted an item by my friend, traded it off to 100 dollars and finally stopped gambling and trading for good.

csgoloot betting and features

Hello Everyone,
A lot of people have asked me what's coming up from www.csgoloot.com and what the site will be about. So I thought I'll update you guys on this subreddit and give you a taste of what's to come.
Betting
Very similar to csgolounge, you will be able to deposit skins and use those to bet on matches we will put up.
I'm sure there will be many issues at the start, as such I'm going to open up a beta where I will provide some skins that people can use to test betting with and deposits and withdrawals. This will be a closed beta with a fixed amount of spots so we're only going to accept testers that want to be part of the community, those that take part and actively contribute to the project will be rewarded with credits and profile badges.
Giveaways
This is a feature that is still in planning stages however most of the code is done for this.
You will be able to enter a very small giveaway in which you will have a 1 in 8 chance of winning a rare item (be it a Karambit or some other dota/tf2/csgo item). The idea behind this is that we want users to get MUCH better odds than they do in CSGO cases, this of course would make each ticket in the giveaway at least 1/8th of the price of a rare item from the market place. Users would also be able to buy as many tickets as they want, increasing the odds of winning.
Shop
A feature in concept stage, we will offer a secure way to sell high value rare items through our site, where users can trade the item with our bots and we list the item on the site where other users can buy the item for credits (deposited by credit card), we take the risk and we pay you through paypal once the item is sold.
Again a lot of this site is easy to change and some areas are still in the concept stage and I would love to get some feedback from the community on how we can improve on existing product and how we can be more transparent with the community.
Team
At the moment the site is being built primarily by myself, however in the last week I have accepted another core member to the team and we're looking and expanding that as we continue with testing. We are still looking for more programmers that are proficient in JS/Node and have the right passion for CS as we do!
Charity
Part of my vision is to raise some money via the website for charities around the world that help children or young adults. It's possible depending on how the running costs pan out, that anything left over would be put towards an annual tournament prize pot that would be run via the website.
Anyway, you guys are our audience and we would love to hear what you think!
Thanks, twa8

Battlefield V: Alpha Feedback

Hello Everyone,
I was one of the lucky lot to get Alpha access, and in doing so I would like to provide feedback so that DICE and other people could see and maybe gauge some reaction to all the new changes to the franchise. I'll of course be posting this on the forums so the important people can see
Let me first preface with the fact that I have NOT studied world war two since I was a fetus and do not have a masters in History. Sorry nerds! Nor I have I played since 1942, my first BF game was BC2 and fell in love. I should also mention that I am one of the players who had reservations when I saw the first trailer. "Hmm.." was the only thing I could say. I don't really care about the whole customization thing too much or the WAMEN in my game (more details below). But I don't like how DICE are pushing it all the same. Either way lets get to the Alpha.

GAMEPLAY

The meat and bones of the game is the gameplay, duh! So I'm gonna delve into each of the new things that I've seen.
FORTNITE FORTIFICATIONS
Jokes aside I really like the addition of fortifications, it just feels right for a BF game. It's pretty much adding extra defenses to block vehicles and for extra cover. Hopefully this will give incentive to defend flags in conquest. I hope they can add more to it (especially for support to give them a greater use). I had even previously made a post on BF1 subreddit to allow supports to place tank hedgehog things so I'm gonna take credit for that.
TTK / GUNPLAY
So I prefer a higher TTK across the board, that's just me. As most Youtubers already covered, the reason TTK feels so low is because of the Attrition so you don't heal fully, etc., etc. I feel that BF4, and to lesser extent BC2, got the health / damage right. But hey, thats just me. Gunplay still feels good. It seems sweetspots are gone? Seems like it, which I'm glad. I like that they've added CSGO-like weapon patterns, adds a higher skill ceiling in my opinion. And suppression is a visual only mechanic.
Attrition / Squadplay
Less automatic regen, more manual actions required to get health and ammo. Great! More reliacne on teamplay is great. I honestly thought they were going off rails when they added the passive effects in BF1 sometime ago. (Auto heal and resupply in an AoE, spotting other people for headshotting someone else). This is a much greater focus on teamplay which is great. You do notice less ammo much more, especially if you just spray people. With the large ammo and health depots on flags it is not annoying that your team doesn't drop ammo even though you're knifing them in the face. And because you're running to the depots you're also running to the objective. Two birds, one stone.
I am seeing a much greater focus on squadplay as well. With squad revives and squad spawning being a priority. As a solo player it still remains frustrating, as you are normally matched with the squad leader who never marks objectives and two other solo players who just rush around killing people. Speaking of which, long gone are the days of going 50-2 with a model 1900 on Argonne Forest, it is much more difficult to go on a solo rampage. You're constantly having to go back to get ammo or health so you're better off sticking with the team as you'll get a revive more than likely.
Also, speaking of revives, I like the new revive system. Although, again as a solo player usually you get revived then die again immediately(a classic Battlefield staple) as it takes so long for a squad revive to complete that someone else has snuck up and killed you :D
I bet on release we will see a group of four friends could easily stomp by sticking together à la PUBG; where if you constantly revive, roam around as 4 and play objectives you'll be raining V1 Rockets erry day.
Overall
So, overall I enjoy the gameplay. all the new additions fit right in without being feeling tacked on in my opinion. I was worried if they did WW2 too soon it would just feel like BF1 with a different skin. I'll cover the vehicles and classes further down.

CHARACTER CUSTOMIZATION

This part will cover two main issues I have with the game. The characters themselves and customization.
The characters are very poorly designed from a gameplay perspective alone, nevermind the historical accuracy here.
Just like at these from tf2. You can tell who is who just from the shape alone, and once you learn what each character does you can assess the threat and prioritise. Same goes for Overwatch too. Now sure, these are cartoony games with giant blobs as heavy tanks and skinny ninjas who teleport behind you. But this very design choice was used in BF1, albeit a lot more subtly (I can't get a good image). I can tell a medic is a medic because he has crutches on his back, or a support will have a giant LMG waving about, etc. I can assess who to kill first without having to think because of this design. I don't have to do this in CSGO say, because all the bad guys are of equal danger. Where as BF has classes that have different roles so this is required.
This leads to another thing: Vision. I find it very hard to see people in the game. Part of this is due to the character models I think. Snow wasn't a big thing in the alpha, at least it wasn't like the fog in BF1. Another part is due to 3D spotting being changed. This is both good and bad. For one, you can move a bit more stealthily around the map; but on the other hand I can't see for shit lol. Maybe I'm just going blind.
For the second part, just this https://www.wired.com/wp-content/uploads/images_blogs/wiredscience/2012/03/ff_prosthetics8_f.jpg 'Nuff said.

Vehicles

First off, the new stuff: Moving the stationary turrets around is great. At one point I was driving a half track with the cannon hitched on back. sped past a tank crashed into a ditch, hopped out the back into the cannon and blew the enemy tank up! Great fun. I'd imagine as time goes on people with get creative with this with squadplay and such. Exit animations are something I approve of. Takes some time to get used to as you have to time yourself, and think about positioning a bit more. Ammo system and resupplying so great. Overall no issues here with the land vehicles.
Air vehicles are another story. They have always been so throughout the series. BC2 had the circle strafing Apaches of Doom. BF3, air vehicles were weak against ground, BF4 the AA was some sort of giant thorn in all pilot's feet (i'm trying to call AA drivers pricks here). BF1, planes are hushed whispers of legends, were very few victims survived to tell the tales. Even then, all they can remember is a dark shadow flying over them and seeing a small spec of the Ilya Muromets high above....
Oof, got lost there. Anyway BFV has removed spotting for planes pretty much. You have to really train your eyes to see the ants running around. I think I killed about 3 people in the planes. I'd imagine this is just a bug or incomplete but there was no sight for dropping bombs like in BF1. Without this it is impossible to see where you're gonna drop a load (hehehe) which is quite apparent now that you only have 1-2 runs before having to resupply. Resupplying is a nice touch, but would prefer if you had further to go / some sort of base to do so in. It's a good start though. Flight ceiling seems to be very short, not sure on exact distance but I can't climb so high. I want to be able to get that Stuka so high my enemies have PTSD from the siren alone.

GRAND OPERATIONS

Short note here but I really enjoy the new Operations. I loved Operations in BF1, but over time it had some issues, mainly as defenders it would be very boring to defend 3 times in a row against the behemoths, especially if the other team was garbage so you just sat on the same flag for one hour. With each day being different there is more room for competitive back and forth, while still providing that big war-like feel.

FEEL

For me, each battlefield game has its own style and feel that the games wants to achieve. BF1 had a very gritty tone. WW1 was the first war to have this style of combat, and I think they nailed that feel. All the characters seem scared with the intros for operations and all the screaming. This isn't even to do with historical accuracy. Its just a choice of tone the devs make. For example, Wolfenstein is an alt history WW2 game. A serious tone would not fit there.
In BFV I am getting mixed signals from the style of the game. On one hand you have a soldier screaming "Mother?!?!?" when he is dying but then squad mate will spawn on you and yell out "ALLO OLD FRIEND, WOTS ALL DIS DEN? YOU WAZZOCK! THE CAVALRIES HERE INNIT?" Its just confusing really. If you wanna go campy / BC2 humour, then cool, go all in. But dont go serious / gritty alongside it.
That's about all I can verbally vomit up. Hope its clear

[PSA] Flux's guide to CS:GO trading and how to do other things good too.

Hello /globaloffensivetrade,
While I am fairly new to the cs:go trading scene, I have a fair amount of past experience TF2 trading, as well as a few other games, and thus have learnt through a bit of luck and experience how to make profit. I get asked questions multiple times a day about some of these trading basics, and you guys seemed quite keen, so I've decided to write this guide. I spent a lot of time and effort on this, so I would appreciate your feedback and feel free to point out any obvious mistakes. If nothing else, read the bolded and italicised parts.
About me:
I've been trading in cs:go for about 3-4 months now, and used to trade heavily in TF2 before cashing out my money and investing it into csgo. I've probably put in around ~$1500 from that and have cashed out about $15000, and still have a [fairly decent inventory](#). Before we get to the part on how I did this, we need to start from the beginning.
Introduction:
When starting to trade, it is a good idea to have an idea what you want. Whether you want to get a particular skin or knife, or earn a living, or just have fun will direct how you might want to trade. I personally trade for fun, but as it turns out making a profit can be quite fun. There is already a good guide to the basics of trading here, and I will try not to reiterate this, but instead explain some more practical details. I recommend you read this if you are completely new to csgo/trading.
Some 'tools' of the trade:
These are sites or tools which are handy to bookmark, check regularly or use.
Trading sites:
Everybody knows Csgo lounge or Csgl, and that it can be quite the hive of scumbag and villany, however due to its high traffic flow, is probably one of the best media to trade.
(Will add more here if I discover more good trading sites)
Pricing Sites:
For most items that the average trader deals with, the price can be looked up quite well at www.steamanalyst.com. Now it is important to know that this is the 'market price' and is not the same as its cash value. When dealing with the steam marketplace, keys take a value of $2.5 USD, and thus the price of skins in keys is their market price / 2.5. Keys are the primary currency of csgo trading and are known as 'pure' offers. Cash value of items is their key value x $1.8-1.9. Offering a 5 key skin is not the same as offering 5 keys as a 5 dollar note isn't the same as 5 dollars worth of groceries. Other sites such as csgo stash also has similar information.
Pricing for items above market price requires some knowledge and experience. People such as elowynoceania have setup a steam group to price check some of these items and has also written a rough price list found here. A handful of people on this subreddit are also experience in price checking (and I will add a list here of any who are willing; send me a message).
Price checkers (with specialty):
**It seems that most people I've listed have stopped price checking. If you are willing to help, please pm me with your steamURL and/or specialty with regards to price checking.
Pricing for knives and skins can vary on their look, even skins of the same type with the same condition may be worth very different. And somewhat strangely, prices of identically looking skins/knives can be very different if they have different conditions.
Browser extensions:
This list was compiled by etherfast here, but I'll copy paste it for convenience. These are incredibly helpful and have streamlined my trading experience, saving me a lot of time and effort.
While I get these two nice weeks off, I thought about putting some time into helping you guys improve your trading experience.
Before I make my list, I want to stress this out that these are mostly for Chrome users. If you have no reason not to switch to Chrome, you should do it. Some of the extensions have Firefox versions as well, but not all of them.
1. Enhanced Steam
This is a nice extension that isn't necessarily related to trading, but it enhances your Steam experience. This is by far the most complex Steam extension, and the list of features is endless
2. Lounge Companion (Dota 2 & CS:GO) No longer allowed on csgl
This will make your CSGL experience better, by allowing you to price check items on the fly and helping you bet easier.
3. Reddit Enhancement Suite
This is well known and it will improve your Reddit Experience and once you try it, you won't be able to live without it. Once again, the features are endless.
4. Reddit Trading Flair Linker Enhanced
This extends people's flairs when you browse the subreddit. It's really nice because it gives you a clickable Steam link, points out any privacy/VAC Bans/Trade bans and tells you if the person is online or playing anything.
5. Steam Community SteamRep Integration
This will highlight profiles banned on SteamRep for you. It doesn't take into account the pending reports, so you might want to do that check yourself. But when that box turns red, you know it's a good warning sign.
6. Steam item search between friends.
This helps you find that specific friend of yours that has that nice Bayonet you want. It loads all of your friends' inventories locally and it makes them searchable. It takes a bit of time to preload, but it's a good alternative to searching through inventories yourself.
7. Decline Unavailable Trade Offers (credit to hohchu, and more)
This helps you dismiss that annoying green envelope that sticks to you when a trade offer is unavailable.
How to start trading?
Now you've bookmarked all those sites I've linked, and read the guides and downloaded all the plugins, what now? Well first in any business, you need to invest something in order to make something, there is no two ways about it. A decent investment (at least $100) will allow you to start trading decently. I recommend the best route to do this is by buying keys off people who are reputable on this subreddit, who sell for around $1.8-2. This is best done via paypal, and will be initially a slow, difficult process as you will have no reputation or rep at this point. You may even want to buy keys off the steam store, however note that these may not be immediately tradeable depending on your payment method. Once you have the keys, look around on the subreddit, csgl, play the game and generally immerse yourself in the community. This will give you some idea of what things are valuable and demanded. Skins which look nice are generally worth more than skins that aren't as nice. Betting skins, such as the AK Redline FT, AWP Asiimov FT, etc tend to be easier to sell just before a tournament, and easier to buy just after.
Once you have a good grasp of what is valued, start making a few trades. Add or message people and offer your keys on their items, and then if they say yes, try selling it for a bit more and voila you have just made your first bit of profit. Now I will go much further in depth later on, but this is the gist of it.
How to gain reputation?
It can be very difficult to gain rep as a beginning trader. There is the catch-22 where people won't sell you things for cash because you don't have rep, and thus you can't get any rep. However, it is very possible to get rep if you present yourself right.
Firstly it helps to have a decently set up steam account. Private profiles are strongly discouraged and most people won't even add you. Private inventories may also be an issue to people. Having an older account and/or a steam level above 2-3 will also make things a bit smoother, as people realise you have invested some time/effort/money into your steam account. As an example I will use my profile. I have a prominently displayed 6 year of service badge. I am level 33, which means I have invested a fair amount of money into my steam account, and I have a lot of hours of a variety of games as well as a lot of +rep comments on my profile. It may even be good to put the country you are from on your profile, given that eastern european accounts have a relatively high rate of scammers, and some people will be more comfortable trading you if you are in their country. Now on the flipside, lacking these things may lead to suspicion of being a possible scammer.
Secondly, being a generally mature and polite person will build more trust with anybody dealing with you. Being aggressive, abusive or seeming illiterate are red flags which may suggest that you are not a trustworthy person. I personally refuse to accept accidental trade offers which they have put none of my items in, and constantly strive to be an honest trader and to not take advantage of people. Now, these things aren't necessary, but being this kind of person will generally help you overall in trading as well as life.
To get meaningful rep for cash trades, you need to setup a thread that isn't your profile, as your profile is not monitored by anybody but yourself. Accusations of scamming can be deleted and +reps can be faked by friends on your profile. So set up a thread here on the steam group: CS:GO Rep. Feel free to copy my setup here but insert your own information which can be found by searching your steamURL on steamrep. Once you've done that, make sure you get the people you trade with to leave a message regarding the trade on your thread, so keep that link handy (I have mine linked on my steam profile).
Now probably the easiest way to do this is to buy a few keys off the steam market, and then sell them to people who have a lot of rep. You will lose some money initially, but you will gain some all-important rep, and will soon be able to buy keys for cash. Doing multiple small transactions is the best way to build rep initially. Selling a few keys here and there, and buying a few will start to fill out your thread.
How to screen people as potential scammers?
There is already a very helpful guide on how to avoid common scams here and here. The most definitive way to tell somebody is a scammer, is if they've done it before and been reported for it. Before doing ANY trade, search their steamURL in www.steamrep.com. A person who is a scammer will have a red outline and it will say 'banned' and will explain why. People who have an orange border with 'x number of reports filed' are generally scammers as well, and I strongly suggest you do NOT trade with either of these types of people.
For people who are scammers-to-be, red flags include:
  • Impersonating another account
  • Low amount of hours/few games
  • New steam account/low steam level
  • Private profile
  • Private inventory/not valuable
  • Not many comments
  • Russian, Romanian or even Italian, or named laska (sounds racist, but the majority of scammers I've met were either of these)
1:58 AM - laskerZ: razizt guide 0/10
1:59 AM - Horrorshow Flux: hahaha
1:59 AM - laskerZ: I'm hugely offended by it. As an Eastern-European, I DEMAND IT TO BE REMOVED
  • Young, immature (<15 years old) - don't really understand the results of their actions
  • Overly keen, impatient to receive your item, offer to pay more than your buyout
  • Know a lot about how cash trading works without having any rep (though some people may have experience in ebay trades, etc and can be trusted)
  • Suspicious in any way (if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is)
Basically if they don't have much to lose, often they will be more likely to scam. People with established names and profiles and inventories have much more to lose and so can be more trustworthy. If I were ever to scam, my lost reputation would be more costly in the long run than any single deal, not that is my only reason I don't scam, just to mention another, I'm not an asshole.
How to cash trade?
Typically paypal is used in most cash trades, being the most convenient generally. Skrill or BTC (bitcoin) can also be used, but I don't personally have much experience in either of these. Typically how trades are done is the buyer will send a money payment as family and friends and pay any fees to the seller, and once the money is confirmed to be received, the seller will send a trade. This method is still possible to be chargebacked, do not listen to anybody who tells you otherwise. Note some countries don't have this option. A middleman can be used, who can be found here, and will hold on to the item before the buyer pays, and will only trade to the buyer once they confirm the seller has received the money. This prevents direct scams, but offers no protection for chargebacks. Chargebacks are the main reason I require people to have rep before dealing in cash with them.
How to setup a neat table for a reddit post?
Easy, just copy what I've done here:
|Type|Skin|Wear|Comment/Screenshots|Current Offer|Buyout|
|:----------|:----------|:----------|:----------|:----------|:-------|:-------|
|Knife|Butterfly Night|FT|Clean looking|None|95k
Now for the big buck item: How to make profit?
The secret to profit is high volume, small profit trades. I will outline how my strategy works below, but it is not necessary to read to make profit, skimming the paragraphs and reading the TL;DR at the bottom should be sufficient. The classic 'buy low, sell high' advice is only partially true. I see so many people trying to sell high and never getting any trades. It really should be 'buy low, sell market'.
Buying items:
It is important to understand a sellers' psychology, in order to understand how to get good deals. First of all you have to buy an item. You do this by exposing yourself to the market as long as possible to find good deals. Post on multiple cs:go/reddit trades, frequently browsing the new section. If you are to offer on a trade, if you are paying pure keys, feel free to offer a little bit less than market price or their buyout (yet still reasonable), so there is a profit margin for you. If you do it in the right manner, more often than not, people are often flexible enough to accept their price, since a reasonable guy with a reasonable price is a good person to trade with. If you offer skins, people more often than not will not value skin offers as highly as keys (though there are exceptions).
Selling items for a profit:
Note that this is more of an explanation of maximum profit, and is a little bit unnecessary to actually profit.
When selling an item you need to understand buyer's psychology and some basic statistics (OH NO THE HORROR!). They want to do either of two things with the item: Use it it or sell it, roughly I'd say the proportions respectively of these people are 1:4. When I say they want to use the item, I mean usually they want to play with it. Thus they are willing to pay full price (FP) or a little bit more (FP + 1 arbitrary unit). The arbitrary unit (AU) can be anything; a dollar, a key, etc and is tied to the value of the item, often around 5%. It is basically your profit margin for most items. Occasionally users will be willing to pay slightly higher than full price, but it isn't enough to rely on the small proportion who do for most of your profits.
Then there are those looking for a profit. Thus they will often be paying a low price (FP - 2 ~ FP - 1). If you have bought it for fairly cheap (=< FP - 2) then you can easily flip it to these people for FP - 1 for at least an AU profit. What price you bought it for may determine whether or not you sell to a specific type of buyer. If you paid full price (FP) then you price your item at > FP + 1 and search for the small proportion of people who are willing to pay more. I have found that the mean price of items if you pay keys is FP - 1, with a standard deviation of 1 AU. I found it optimal to focus on buying items at the price of FP - 1 ~ FP - 2. Thus at the highest range of your buying, you make a profit from 20% of the population, and at the lower end you make it from almost 100% of the population. Of course these numbers are highly speculative.
Here's a graphical explanation for what I am saying. This graph represents roughly the market for items. I am suggesting that you buy at FP - 1 and Sell at FP for maximal consistent profit, as in this picture, where the pink is your sweet sweet profit, basically the crux of my entire guide, not only this is profitable, it is very stable and consistent and safe profits (with the notable exception of new items, which don't have a fixed FP).
TLDR; Buy highly demanded items for under the market price, and sell for market price or slightly below for maximum profit/time.
Cutting your losses/How to get unstuck as a trader?
Sometimes you will find yourself with an item which should be worth x, but you aren't getting offers near it. Maybe you got ripped off, or it has suddenly dropped in price. This is when you cut your losses. Moping over your loss won't help you earn more and will keep you stuck at your current value. Don't be too attached to your items, unless you have already gotten your 'dream knife', so why would you even be reading this :P?
Profit is based exponentially on what you have, i.e. the more you have, the more you profit you make. Thus it is often better to quickly sell some items in order to increase your total currency value (even at a loss of your theoretical currency/market value) as having currency allows you to make more profit than that damn StatTrak Butterfly Boreal Forest FT. You should try and sell at FP - 2, or sell it on the market.
The potential future profit will eventually cover the losses incurred by this trade. This ensures a smooth flow of items in and out of your inventory, allowing for maximum profit.
Selling Strategies:
Generally skins are easier to sell, but have smaller profit margins, and knives are more profitable, but move a lot slower. Hence I will explain how I sell items, and recommend you do the same. Basically lets say you have some skins and knives. What your goal should be, if you want to make profit, is to eventually convert all these skins and knives into currency like keys or cash. How you do this is to downgrade. Downgrading is trading for slightly less desirable/valuable items alongside currency.
What would be optimal is that someone will offer your buyout in keys, however this rarely happens (and is often leading to a scam attempt), so you need to take a relatively big item, and break it down into smallemore liquid bits. When you are offered items, take an offer that is similar in value if it has highly liquid items (such as betting skins, keys, vanilla knives, cheap 'entry level' knives around ~20-30k) over an 'overpay' offer of something that is hard to sell (stat-trak low tier knives, battle-scarred high tier knives, case hardeneds). It is often easier to sell two low-mid tier knives than one high tier knife.
People who trade at a lower level, I suggest you upgrade, like trade two $1.25 skins for $2.50 one, as then you can trade for a key and possibly buy a $3 item, etc. The way I actually see it is like nuclear fusion/fission, just an analogy for you physics and chem nerds :3. Elements which are heavy release energy when split by fission (trade expensive items into multiple cheaper items), and elemental which are light, gain energy by fusion (trade a few cheap items into a reasonable item).
When trading an item with a high variance in price, you want to be moving towards either end. I'll give an example. A Karambit Fade FN with 60% purple/40% pink goes for around 250k. This is highly demanded as it's the cheapest you can get of the item. A Kara Fade with 90% Pink/10% yellow goes for ~500 keys and is also highly demanded as it's the best you can get. So if you had a Kara Fade 80/15/5 (~320k), you would want to downgrade to a 60/40 + 70 keys and if you had a 90/7/3 (~450k) you would want to upgrade to a 90/10. This concept mainly applies for fades, but can also be used in other patterns.
Conclusion:
Damn I just wrote that in one sitting, start to finish. If only I had the motivation for my uni work. Feel free to share this guide with your friends and fellow traders.
Peace,

[PSA] Updated - An Advanced Guide in the World of Trading

This is quite long, so if you find it easier feel free to read the guide here

Introduction

Hey guys, my name is Transfer also know as the_only_luke. After a long long time of gathering information I have finally decided it is time to release my new guide - a more in depth guide on how to trade in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Hopefully I will cover every possible aspect of the trading life, from entrepreneurial skills all the way on how not to get scammed. I will post my recommendations and simple ways in order to become a successful trader.

A little about me

My name is Luke and I have been trading for over 1 year. I have managed to turn over an enormous profit and continuing to do so . I'm 18 year of age and live in the UK. After a couple of weeks of playing CS:GO I quite liked it and bought my very first skin, an AK-47 Redline FT. I had no intention in trading it or making tons of profit (or even knew i could trade), I just wanted it to have a cooler ak.
My friend introduced me to a betting site called csgolounge, that I found out (after a couple days) that you can trade on it. My first post was just a joke really, it was my ak redline for any m4 asiimov (BS/WW/FT). I then waited for over a week and eventually traded it for a m4 asiimov ww then traded the m4 for a gut safari mesh and traded all the way up to where I am now (feel free to check out my inv).
I have previously made a basic guide on how to trade but finally I have got around to writing an in depth one.
Some of you may know me for the team wallpapers I made on reddit:
If you have any questions feel free to comment below. If you would like to speak to me personally feel free to add me on steam (be sure to comment on my profile before adding me).

What is an Entrepreneur?

Let us begin with a definition "An entrepreneur is a person who sets up a business, taking on financial risks in the hope of profit"
Some people think of entrepreneurs as people who are willing to take risks that other people are not. Others define them as people who start and build successful businesses.
Taking the first of the two, the risk would be the money invested or the items that you have traded for. Taking the second of the two, success is measured by profit.
Regardless of how you define an "entrepreneur," one thing is certain: becoming a successful entrepreneur isn't easy... and hopefully this guide will help increase your chances of success.

Entrepreneurial Skills

I am able to identify the skills I believe are necessary in order to become successful. You may not need all these skills, however the more you have probably the easier it will be to turn over a profit.

Setting a Goal

Before entering the trading scene it would be a good idea to determine your goal. A goal is something that you hope to achieve by the end of trading. It could be a specific item or loadout, make money, or to just have fun and meet new people. No option is wrong, and no option is the best; it just comes down to you.

Common Websites

Investment

First things first, we are going to need to determine an investment. An investment is an item that is purchased with the hope that it will generate income or appreciate in the future. In an economic sense, an investment is the purchase of goods that are not consumed today but are used in the future to create wealth. In finance, an investment is a monetary asset purchased with the idea that the asset will provide income in the future or appreciate and be sold at a higher price. Obviously the more money you invest the easier it will to generate a reasonable profit.
If you are one of few people who were lucky to unbox something worth a lot then you can skip this step.
Once you have decided how much you want to invest you will need to decide what you will buy with the money. You can buy keys for $2.1 from people using paypal, or you can just decide to buy a starting skin/knife.

Useful Definitions

Trading

Buying - A good way to begin making profit it to buy items at quicksell prices. Quicksell means buying something for less than it's market value. Try to avoid paying the market price for any item unless it is a particular pattern on a knife. Don’t be impatient and keep your cool. If a seller won’t negotiate, shop around for other sellers of the same items. Usually people will quicksell items if your offering in pure keys. To determine the price of an item in keys simply divide it's market value by the price of keys in currency. For example, if an AWP Asiimov FT costs £28 and keys cost £1.7 then the market price of an AWP would be 16.5 Keys.
Selling - Try to sell your items around 1-5 keys more than you bought it for. Remember, if you attempt to sell for too much then you’re less likely to attract a buyer, especially if there’s a lot of the items you’re selling. If you struggle to sell an item reduce the selling price gradually down.

CSGOLounge

CS:GO Lounge is undeniably the most popular source for trading & betting.
Setting Up
First things first, we are going to have to log in. Csgolounge uses your steam login in order to gather your steamid, trade url, and current skins. To log in simply the "sign in through steam" button
To check that you are logging into the correct website & not a phishing link, just look up at the url and if it begins with HTTPS and/or contains a little padlock icon then you will be signing in securely through steam. like so
Once logged in, we will need to connect our "Steam Trade URL". We can do this by going to the "My Profile" tab and pressing "Steam Trade URL".
We then need to copy & paste our Trade URL into the designated section and press "Add URL"
Let's Begin Trading
Now that we have logged in it's time to begin trading. First we will need to choose an item we want to trade and then find items we want. We can do this simply by searching for items worth a little more than the market price of the item we want to trade. In this tutorial I will be trading my USP-S Orion FN ST.
To quickly check the value of an item I would recommend Steam Inventory Helper. It allows you to check the price of your item, or anyone else's directly from the inventory section.
Looking at the USP we can see it is worth £49.86 and I have used a Key worth £1.70 as a vector. A vector shows how much an item is worth in terms of another. By pressing the price, Steam Inventory Helper will link you to the item's steam market page. Here we can view the Sales Graph in order to determine whether or not our item is stable. Taking a look at the graph we can see that our item has a steady price ranging between £45-£50. It is worth noting that stattrak items, and BS/WW items usually have an unstable price due to their demand being lower than their better wears.
We then have to find items that we would like to trade our USP for. We can do this by ordering the csgo market by the lowest price and finding the USP in the list. An easy way to change the page is to edit the url. Simply change the "1" in "p1" to a higher number.
Once we have found the USP we just need to simply pick items worth a slightly higher amount
Now that we have found the items we want, we can head back over to csgolounge. By pressing the "Add Trade" tab we can now select our item and use the search bar on the right to find the items we want.
As you can see I have added a description to my trade. I have stated my B/O. Different people have different ways to determine their B/O, I tend to look at the market price and take a key or two away.
In order to see the price of the items, I am using an add on called Lounge Destroyer
Remember to bump your trades every 30 minutes or donate to csgolounge to unlock autobump (recommended)
Searching
Now that we have posted our trade(s) we can search for the items we want an offer people our item.
Simply press the "Search" tab and select an item you are looking for, then press search and you will find people looking to trade their item. For a more specific search you can also add your item to find people looking to trade for your item.

Quickselling

There is a lot of miscommunication with the term "quickselling" and hopefully I will try to clear it up. Most people believe a quicksell is determined by how low an item is priced below market price, usually believed to be 85%. If i reduce the price of an item enough so that demand will rise, then I am quickselling. You don't need to make something 85% to be a quicksell, aslong as it is below the price that the usual consumer is usually willing to pay then it will sell very fast. A good example is the AWP Asiimov FT, a very popular weapon. The AWP costs £29 and keys cost £1.7 then the market price of an AWP would be 16.5 Keys, however the usual asking price is 16k since that is the price the consumers are willing to pay. If someone were to sell the AWP for any lower then it will more than likely sell instantly.
Search up Price Elasticity if you want some more details.

Patience

When trading don't get attached to an item, always make profit. Constantly check market for fluctuations in prices that you can take advantage of. Patience, patience & more patience don't worry about having the same item for almost a week, good things come to those who wait. What really makes or breaks a trader is how long he is willing to wait for a deal. Some items may take time to sell, and that’s the hard truth.

Reputation

"Your reputation is vital for trading. Maybe not so much when you’re starting up but an absolute necessity when trading for higher value items. Don’t be afraid to ask for ‘+rep’ when you’ve completed a trade. Bear this in mind for the future if you’re starting out. Experienced traders will know this only too well. Be polite with fellow traders and stay on good terms regardless of the outcome of your trade. You never know if might meet the trader again and good friends are a major advantage when it comes to trading. Build up your reputation on your Steam Profile page comment section." copied from this tf2 guide

Common Scams & How to Stay Safe

Scams
A scam is when a Steam user convinces another user to make a deal (trade, gift or market transaction) under false pretenses. Scams usually involve deception in order to convince a user that they are getting a good or fair deal when in fact they are not. For more information on scams read the Steam Scam FAQ
The most Common Scams are:
Easiest Ways to Avoid Getting Scammed
You can check if someone is a marked scammer on SteamREP

Stay Safe

How to avoid Phishing Bots
When someone adds you you should check their profile is private, or if they have CSGO installed. If the profile is private, level between 0 to 3, or if it doesn't have CSGO, they are most probably a bot trying to steal your items and you should ignore/block it. These bots will usually send phishing links or try to get you to play in a tournament with them.
Steam Inventory Helper has an awesome feature to ignore/block invites below a certain level
Voice Comm Software / Join Our Tournament Team (Malware)
A user convinces you to install malware hidden in a voice communication, anti-cheat, or other type of software by claiming that they need you to install it so that you can play in a tournament.
Fake Steam Website (Malware)
A user wants to trade with you or wants you to be on their competitive team and sends you a link to a website that looks just like Steam. After you log in (providing the hijacker with your login name and password), you are either prompted to install malware disguised as a Steam update or malware is automatically installed onto your computer. Like previously stated, to check that you are logging into the correct website & not a phishing link, just look up at the url and if it begins with HTTPS and/or contains a little padlock icon then you will be signing in securely through steam. like so
Paypal/Steam Wallet Scams
Bots offer "Steam Wallet" funds for your items via a trade offer. There is no possible way to transfer Steam Wallet Money between users and this is 100% a scam.
Secure your Steam Account
"Ensure you have a strong complicated password securing your Steam Account and ensure it’s Steam Guard Enabled. Check your Steam Account Settings. An additional safeguard is to use an alternate email account from your day to day personal email. Create a new email account if necessary for use with your Steam Account and keep it private. Don’t use your real name or your gaming nickname for this account and again ensure you use a strong complicated password. Do not make this email address public especially within your Steam Profile or other gaming forums. In many cases hackers gain access to the email account associated with the Steam Account to change the account password so keeping your email account secret and secure is vitally important." copied from this tf2 guide
If you suspect there is a problem with your Steam account contact Steam Support immediately.

High Tier Items & Float Values

Determining the value of an item worth more than the market max ($400) can be tricky and time consuming. Here are common ways you can determine the value of your item:
High Tier Knives tend to have special Patterns that can change the value drastically. A very useful guide would be this one created by titaniumsack

Float Values

The Float Value is a number, mostly in decimals but sometimes in percentages. This number is from 0-1 / 0%-100%. This number tells you how good your weapon looks, if it has many scratches or not.
Float Wear
0.45 – 1.00 Battle-Scarred
0.37 – 0.45 Well-Worn
0.15 – 0.37 Field Tested
0.07 – 0.15 Minimal Wear
0.00 – 0.07 Factory New
The closer to 0 the better.
A really useful website used by almost every single trader is csgoexchange. If used correctly you will be able to determine the float and phase of an item. You are also able to see previous owners of an item and locate specific float skins.

Screenshots

In order to advertise your item, you will need to take screenshots. Screenshots enable a buyer to see what the item looks like ingame.
A growing fashion is the use of 4k Screenshots to show more detail in the images.
You can take 4k screenshots with an Nvidia GPU by following these steps:
You can take 4k screenshots with an AMD GPU by following these steps:
And simply copy-paste the images onto photoshop or any other photo editing software and mess around with the lighting, vibrance, blur etc. Asofnowyoudie made an awesome guide how to work with photoshop here
If you enjoyed the Guide then feel free to give it a Thumbs Up, Favourite & Share it with your friends. If you think I have missed anything, feel free to comment and I will try to add it in.
Comes to just under 3,500 words sooo yeah if you read it all, give yourself a pat on the back.

Everything you wanted to know about Crimefest, the black market update and other 'infamous' things mentioned a lot around here

Edit: turns out some things I said are incorrect. I added edits to fix my mistakes.
Theres quite a lot of new people that started playing after the whole thing went down, and they get confused when people mention 'the thing that went down'. So here me trying to explain 'the thing that went down'.
This is purely informative for newer people who want to be in the loop, this isn't to discuss Crimefest since we've done that enough. Everything that had to be said about it has been said multiple times so fuck off if you just want to start a flame war in the comments again. Thank you.
Ok now back to the point. Crimefest is/was a yearly thing where Overkill would release a bunch of free content updates for Payday 2 in quick succession. In 2014, Crimefest was all about old Hoxton: community was asking to bring him back into the game, so Overkill hyped it all up with that 10 minute real life trailer and stuff.
Overall it was great: there was a skill rebalance, the fugitive tree was added, we got old Hoxton back as a heister and as a finale, we got Hoxton Breakout: an epic, hyped up 2 day loud only heist with absurd payout in both exp and money where we literally break Hoxton out of jail.
Now there were some other things Overkill promised to bring like FBI files, a new gensec enemy and more. They werent ready then and in the following months they werent ready either. We finally got those a few months back: later than promised/expected but hey, stuff like that can take work and if they run into some problems along the way that they cant fix then I understand it can take longer.
Now onto the Crimefest of 2015. Prior to it, we got something called 'the road to Crimefest'. We got a webpage with heisters, a path and challenges along the path. These were ingame challenges we, as a community, had to complete to unlock the free reward connected to the challenge. Stuff like do this heist 100 000 times, kill X cloakers, etc...
At the start some of those challenges were 'get person X or Y 50 000 twitter followers'. The community didnt like those at all, since not everyone has twitter, the people we had to follow didnt know about it and there were already talks of using Chinese sites or just mass spamming fake twitter accounts to get those challenges completed, which wouldnt help the voice actors,... in the slightest. They'd only gain a bigger number, 90% of their followers would be bots.
So Overkill listened to their playerbase and swiftly replaced those challenges with actual ingame challenges like the rest, and we even kept our progress (so halfway done on the twitter followers was replaced with something else, that was already halfway done). So far so good.
We really like that event. There would be cryptic hints when we completed a challenge and we all went full tin hat mode to try and figure out what the rewards could be. It was awesome. It took some grinding from dedicated groups, but eventually we completed all the challenges.
And then came the actual Crimefest. We were going to recieve our free content updates that we had unlocked. And then they dropped the black market update.
Introducing safes and skins, and overall rebalancing all weapons. Skins dropped from Safes, which you could only open by purchasing drills for 2,50ish depending on where you live and what money you use. They would give you a random skin with a random quality, worth ranging from 0,01 to 300 actual real life monies.
Controversial, but not unseen: both TF2 and CSGO have the exact same system and its is huge. We're talking trading, betting, selling and reselling to make a profit, the whole shebang.
Now here's the outrageous part: these skins would affect stats. Small boosts to damage, accuracy, concealment, etc... Unseen. Every game that has skins or cosmetics has them purely for looks. I can not recall any game that has cosmetics that would change performance.
While small, they had a lot of impact. Payday 2 has 'breakpoints': certain thresholds you want to reach on a weapon to maximize efficiency. Example: if your gun can do X damage, you have enough damage to one shot a tan guy with a headshot on Overkill. If you have only 1 less damage, you wont kill him but leave him with just a sliver of health, and he requires another bullet. Massive difference, but only a tiny difference in damage. The weapon rebalance made it so that you could no longer hit those breakpoints on certain guns...Unless you had the stat boosting skin for said gun. The boost would be enough to reach the breakpoint again.
Edit: As Heroic_Shepherd has pointed out, only a few skins affected breakpoints. Most of them did not impact breakpoints but just gave a small boost. The impact on overall gun balance isn't as massive as I claimed, but only limited to a few guns/loadouts. Still enough to make people mad about skins making your guns objectively better than other guns.
Also Edit: Forgot to mention that you could get any skin from a safe. Including a skin for a gun that is in a DLC that you dont own. Got a plainsrider bow skin? Nice. Too bad you dont actually own the Western pack DLC so you wont be able to use the plainsrider bow.
To top it off: this was supposed to be a 'free' content update from Crimefest. We grinded 5 million lootdrops in a few days to complete the challenge that gave us the Black market update. To get skins you had to pay for a drill, there was nothing free about it.
Also, a former Overkill developer, Goldfarb, had said in an interview that Payday 2 would never had mictrotransactions. A lot of people saw the skins as microtransactions. Microtransactions in a game that already has a crap ton of DLC compared to other games was just too much to take.
The rest of Crimefest 2015 was pretty much done for by then. They had dropped a bomb, and the fire wasn't going to go out soon. Overkill released a bunch more free stuff every day but it looked very sloppy. There was no buildup or story or anything.
They released 3 new heists: Aftershock, to introduce safes into the game lore I guess, and 2 heists from the first game: First world bank (and its overdrill secret) and Slaughterhouse. Weird, considering they had always said they would never bring back the old heists but preferred working on new heist ideas.
Other than that, they released a bunch more 'content updates' that should have been called bugfixes, tweaks and general updates to a game: turrets were changed, we now bend our knees when jumping, you can set your preferred approach (stealth or loud) in your lobby so joiners can see what they're joining into, etc.. This only fueled the flames of the playerbase.
Overkill dropped a bomb, then dropped some fuel for the resulting fires to burn. You'd expect them to drop a defuser and a bunch of firefighters in to try and do some damage control, right? Nope.
After days of radiosilence, we finally saw some attempt at damage control from Overkill with the Almir AMA on this very subreddit. Only problem: if the bomb has already blown up, there is very little point in sending in someone to defuse it. Let alone that the defuser pretends like there is no bomb at all.
Almir responded with a general PR answer, and sometimes outright claimed that 'players are loving the new update' when they had every reason to believe otherwise. Overkill ignored the playerbase, then claimed it was a 'vocal minority' making a ruckes while steam reviews dropped significantly and the press wrote articles titled 'the company that fucked up'.
The AMA, like everything else, went up in flames.
This is why people are pissed at Overkill. Why theres always that one turd in the comments of every post going "YEA BUT SKINS ARE STILL BAD OVERKILL YOU SUCK". Its why theres people that think they're better than you because 'they were here when shit went down and the game went to shit and you werent there, also fuck you for still liking this game'.
Now over the past few months, Overkill has been doing some actual damage control. They made it so you can get drills from loot drops now, so you can get skins without having to pay for them. Its tedious and RNG based, but its possible. You can get stat boosts alone now as a drop too. And they've even promised to revise the Completely Overkill pack too, since those were just more skins (see the end of the post if you dont have a clue what that is either)
Anyways, thats what happened. It split the playerbase into three groups: the "Overkill is literally Hitler" one, the "Shut up, skins are great" one and then the people that are either upset or not with what went down, but ultimately go "well its still a fun game and I'm not going to quit playing because the company did a stupid thing".
Now you know what went down. Take from it what you will. You bought the game because you wanted to have fun playing a game and this looked like a fun game. Its a fun game, so dont let any of this 'politics' stop you from enjoying it. Happy heisting!
PS about the Completely Overkill pack:
This was introduced in another event, called the Hypetrain. Same principle as the road to crimefest: we reach goals and unlock free content. However, there was only one goal: reach X amount of 'hype fuel' to get this, reach Y to get this etc.. Hype fuel was earned by purchasing DLC.
In light of this, the Completely Overkill pack was introduced for a price of 20 real life monies. It contained the Overkill pack (the minigun and RPG), 4 mega masks of the original heisters (the glowy masks) and a super secret, one of a kind cosmetic item. It would add 20 hypefuel to the event (significantly more fuel than any of the the other DLC's would add if you bought them), and there were only 25000 copies. It was pricy, but also stated in the description that this was more of a 'donation' type of thing than an actual purchase of a DLC. You donated to Overkill and got some stuff in return.
After having to wait a long time for their special item, CoP owners got a unique safe and drill, which meant their reward was RNG. Some would get a rare skin in mint condition, others would get a well worn crappy skin for a gun they dont use. So those guys werent too happy either.
Edit: as pointed out by several people, the CoP did originally not include the Overkill pack itself, but it was later added to the CoP, but the description didnt change so people were confused on what they were actually buying. They also 'released' the CoP during the hypetrain event, making it unable for people to get a refund through steams 'less than 2 hours played and you can ge a refund' policy. This may or may not have been because people were unhappy with the Hypetrain event and were starting to get refunds.
Still an edit: once the CoP released, they added all the gun DLC. Since you can get gun skins regardless of what DLC you own, they made sure CoP buyers would not end up with a unique skin for a weapon they didnt own the DLC for. Some people were mad, but if you can throw 20 dollars at a mystery DLC/donation you probably own all the DLC already and you didnt miss out on getting that DLC as a package in the CoP.

Im pissed off about the danger zone update. You should be too.

The CSGO danger zone update was released earlier on this evening, and valve should get a ton of shit for it.
First of all, valve what the fuck are you doing, making the game free to play makes a mockery of all the players who paid for the game years earlier, and better yet opens the game up to even more toxic russian six year olds. Let me guess, your going to make it like TF2, where you can buy any cheap shitty item from the ingame store, and then play the game premium. Thanks, casual just became competitive, because the mute button wasnt getting all the ingame attention it deserved.
I thought the whole point of prime was to separate yourself from the dodgy folks who joined comp games and then cheated, who are already in csgo and have no problem with buying the game, but now that prime is given by default to all paying customers, all theses scrubs are back with us epic gamers. CSGO has degenerated back in time a good few years thanks to this update.
And this is partly your fault too, im looking at you gamer. Why the fuck wasn't there more backlash when CSGO free edition was released? Valve was clearly testing the waters for a fully fledged free edition with online capability, instead of the "demo" it presented itself to be.
Once again, Valve showing no regard for their playerbase and they're hard earned cash, all for a ploy to earn more revenue.
They've stopped caring about competitive, which is why the majority of the CSGO playerbase played the game anyway, and switched theyre focus on this dangerzone dogwank. So Competitive is going to die out, along with the rest of the active playerbase because once again valve will stop updating parts of the game and let it slowly phase out of relevance and then existance,
And I ain't one of them Jews did 9/11 conspiracy types either, but heres what I think happened:
Yesterday valve tries to attract more developers to their store by decreasing their revenue cuts after a certain amount of copies sold
Today Epic games decreases theirs to a level where Steam cant even fucking compete with, so now Valve release this update to try to steal some of these fortnite players using this "battle royale" hunk of horseshit in a panic, instead of taking the time to balance it out, clearly designed to appeal to the younger players who have the attention span of a goldfish and get bored when waiting for a new round in regular competitive. But funnily enough, these 8 year old fortnite players are too dedicated to the fanbase, so this clear power move was flawed from the start. It just shows how out of touch with reality these executives are, but anything for revenue am I right?
Speaking of the danger zone game mode, what was that one Valve exec thinking? PUBG, Fortnite, Blackops 4 and Battlefield have done it, fuck it, lets put it in CSGO.
Ive played a good few matches of dangerzone now, and I can tell you that its the most unbalanced piece of shit. The crates which spawn either contain guns which are useless, or shotguns, which are retarded to use at more than CQB range, which coincidentally is most of the Blacksite map. You have these fucking annoying drones flying everywhere, and a tablet to order overpriced guns from, cause wierdly enough, your either piss poor or you have metric tons of cash which wont even buy you good guns. And even when you do order, everyone can fucking see your location because they can follow the cunted little delivery drone right to you.
Oh yeah, and panorama also gets highjacked, because fuck your taste in maps or weapons, your having this fucking lab coat dude on your main menu instead of the thing you wanted.
I fucking bet you that valve are now going to try and sell more glove skins, because surprise you spawn without any weapons, and introduce shitty overpriced tablet skins to try and get more revenue. And your skins in regular gameplay? You can fucking forget those. Categories like rifles only come into play rarely ever and even then during the late game where the majority of players died. Plus, the guns have only a single clip, so your going to run out of ammo anyway. Even better, the crates which you get them from are scarce, and take fucking ages and a lot of noise to hit open.
And trying to emulate Competitive gameplay and strategy on dangerzone? Fuck that shit. Heres 120 hit points and a map which tells you exactly where the enemies are.
Lets talk about the map for a second. It fucking sucks. I played this game mode with a friend for the first time, and he instantly pointed out how it has Counter strike source level graphics, none of that HD Good shit valve have been trying to do. Oh, and they also re-used map content from they're older games, you can clearly spot a tf2 like camera, which has at best been flipped and shrunk down to a less cartoony size by the map devs.
Source:
Dangerzone Camera: https://i.imgur.com/yNVlTIW.png
TF2 Camera: https://i.imgur.com/Kd6KLyp.png
And whats this about Valve making CSGO a more esports friendly game, reducing physics based objects in their maps about? There are red barrels in Dangerzone now, which fly up like a sad, shitty little rocket when you shoot them.
Why have game devs been trash this year? First Battlefield V, then Bethesda and their disaster of fallout 76, now Valve, first off starting with the disappointment of a Dota 2 card game nobody cared for, but recovering after releasing better content for csgo, including the MP5 and the two new maps, but now absolutely ruining the game for everyone. Skin prices are going to fall as people who actually cared about the game move on to better communities which actually care about their views.
This is the end of CSGO.
Gamers rise up.

I Believe Activision/Blizzard is a regular gaming company, I would even go as far to say that their a good if not a little bit great.

Reason people hated the company that I legitimately don't understand
1.) Lootboxes, valve brought it to the west and charged players to open them, and gave players the option to trade their winnings and cash out. They were successful and inspired game makers in the west to make similar microtransactions.
Oh but activision blizzards lootboxes they're the real source of modern inspiration of lootboxes! I mean lets all call overwatch a tf2 ripoff but hold overwatch strictly accountable for making lootboxes what they are today even though the solid profits of the lootboxes weren't even released to the public for over a year, "until the year of the lootbox started" and even though there was plenty of existing lootboxes from other games that had public records of lootbox profits that could've and most likely inspired publishers developing games that year, lets just say that it's all overwatch fault.
I'm reminded of how during the prohibition era when people demonized alcohol, people demonized those who sold alcohol as monsters, even though up into that point its was just a normal practice, and you end up with a bunch of average joes who thought they were setting up a standard establishment beforehand being portrayed just as assholes . Which is totally unfair because like I said up unto that point they thought they were getting into a standard practice. I mean its not as if our society has a bunch of chance based products beforehand like i don't know "loot crate" mystery toy boxes, trading card games, mystery prizes in cereal mystery mcdonald toys, mystery shirt packages etc. I mean its not as if one of the biggest controversies around that time was how mcdonalds random monopoly contest was rigged, lets just pretend that triple a gaming more specifically activision blizzard is responsible for this concept being prevalent in society, and lets get mad when they say their not part of the pay to win controversy, when asked about the ea controversy even though that actually makes sense, because ea's lootboxes were tied to ingame power while overwatch just wasn't.
2.) Auction house; it existed in other games like maplestory, it would've been an interesting form of microtransction that gave players the ability to make money for themselves in real life, giving blizzard a lil cut to support their game, I won't say that it was the best idea, but to say it was ugly or selfish? hmm hardly its just an experimental form of microtransaction the way I see it, oh well guess that kinda act can only be tolerated if steam does it, I mean that kinda system has helped college students pay off their debt but nope its evil unless its valve.
3.) Overwatch has 5 dollars skins that you can earn by watching streams? oh no lets hate that practice because the legendary edition{not the standard} is 60 dollars I mean its ok that fortnite has 20 dollars skins because its free to play, I mean sure there is absolutely no way to earn the skins on the store page by playing the game or watching ads, you have to throw money in to either get the items directly or battlepass items no matter what, but fortnite is free! just not rewarding EVER... until you pay.
4.) The diablo immortal announcement: wow where do I even begin, how bout the fact that a couple of weeks before blizzcon, they actually tried to tell people not get their hopes up, and heck after the announcement before red guy spoke up they actually made it clear that they are in fact working on multiple projects that couldn't be anymore on the nose. Also people getting pissed about the cellphone thing? Oh please, I bet 90% of that audience have never spoken to a room that was 10% their size, the presenter just tried to make a friendly joke because he was nervous. It's not like he called the audience uneducated, it also certainly didn't warrant commentators spamming that phrase on congoers youtube/twitter posts of blizzcon.
Also people calling the game a reskin when on the record blizzard said they were co-developing it? What cause the U.I looks the same, oh I guess EVERY GAME that has a similar u.is is a reskin! Oh wait its not because its popular on multiple phone games because it fits very well for hands on the side of the phone, Also we totally do this for all shooters amirite? Similar U.I ITS A RESKIN.
Also people upset because of how long diablo 4 has been in development all I say is, really? This wait time is rather standard for Blizzard, People like to say how dare activision rush bungie or blizzard to release content on a schedule, but have no qualms yelling at blizzard until they release a screenshot of the #4 in the diablo font, like y'all know even nintendo regrets doing that with metroid prime 4 because they were flat out not ready, also they have been rather reasonable to tell us that the games being worked on unlike I dunno valve, who made it a goddamn joke to string people along on the release of half life 3 up until the point that one of the half life writers felt so much pity for the fanbase he had to go behind the companies back using a legal loophole to give closure to fans to the point even grown men reported that they cried because they can finally move on.
5.) A guy testified that he had a bad relationship with a lady in blizzard that was mostly private conversations? LETS HATE THE ENTIRE COMPANY, even though companies like rockstar, and cd projeckt red have GENERAL policies to work their employees like indentured servants lets hate blizzard for not being Omnipotent god beings that had 100 percent control over each and every one of their employees, there has never in human history been one bad apple in a well meaning organization ever! never mind the fact that despite the fact the "abused" employee wanted to make a point to criticize the company out of principle for "trying to be inclusive but not really" he focused heavily on dragging one lady's reputation citing private conversations as evidence instead of documentation or substantial collaborative testimonies that the "company" was abusing him.
6.) Activision- Blizzards relationship with bungies, Is it really that controversial if I tell you that activsion is not to blame for destiny being shit like at all, some may say But activison rushed bungie by making them follow a schedule. To which I say you do realize that bungie knowingly signed into that contract because they were offered 100's of millions of dollars right? Like its not like Bobby Kotick kidnapped the families of bungie and forced them to sign into right? Not that it matter sinces there are reports that activision gave bungie additional time when asked for. Oh but the microtransactions and the quality of the content!.... All bungies fault they had creative control, and had the right to decide the monetization for the game.... Oh but they threw a party when they left lets make claim that they were ABUSED! Like company going away parties are entirely normal, heck they partied when they left Microsoft oh but in that case its a tragedy , but if its activision its ABUSE.
7.) pay to win patent; I mean its literally r&d's job to try and lock on profitable ideas, its only accountable if ideas are put into practices, warframe developers admit they have turn down ideas they think would be nasty for players, but you don't see anyone swearing vengence because they once had a bad idea on how to monetize their game and did for a long while until jim sterling criticized them about it, y'know now that I think about it, jim sterling never did fufill his little bribe promises of making a video about why their such a great game company, I don't count his reaction video to the change as his "praise video" (it has bare minimum effort in my opinion)..... anycase
8.) Infinite warfare? OH PLEASE people were practically begging for cod to do something different and people attacked it for being too different, shesh, guess whenever people say that they mean make it a TINY bit different! except not really because people were hating on cod hoping for titanfall to kill cod, even though there were similar elements in cod beforehand and it was even more bonkers then infinite warefare, but oh no thats fine, its just not fine if activision does it.
  1. ) Activision giving a new CFO over 10 million dollars in stock and like 1 to 2 mil in direct cash... you do realize they lost 2 cfos within weeks of each other beyond thier control, I don't think CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER is a position that you can leave vacant. To THose saying ACTIVISION should of just paid him peanuts and make him swear off most of his paycheck until they're doing better to be fair! OH YeArGH totally, thats something you can do when HIRING PEOPLE, Like IWATA Was the main ceo making the choice to take a paycut, its not at all similar to hiring someone for a tedious position, since when is it a practice to tell them new employees outright to take one for the team and work for less until the companies rich again, which god who KNOWS when! I think it is fair to criticize bobby kotick for taking a huge paycheck if those layoffs happen. Though it's somewhat beyond activision blizzard hands because they can't really find many positions the former staff that worked with bungie to fill.
Look I won't say activision blizzard is perfect, but I feel that the hatred has become a joke to me, like its insincere, because its being treated like an obligation, when in reality I'd say its hardly warranted.
Yeah they might've kept people waiting on diablo 4 but if you expect quality and a sincere announcement that they won't go back on, its going to take some time, at least they don't play disrespectful games that mocks people waiting for diablo 4 like gabe newell did for half life 3, and instead actually tell you they're working on it.
To the people who think the phrase "you guys don't have phones" is an unacceptable hostile action even if its a poorly timed cringey joke, that comes from a well meaning place? I'm sorry have we as a SOCIETY not been enjoying akward presenters at e3 speaking in a cringey manner creating some of the best quality meme content in history?
Activision Blizzards game has overall been quite polished in term of quality releases, no fallout 76 as of late that I can recall, they've been more communicative then valve, they've given more time to their developers to work on games at requests at times unlike telltale, they made the choice for years to keep activision influence outside of blizzard only now coming in to help them save money because they don't have any games coming out soon. Heck Activision Blizzard is in trouble mainly for taking care of games and working on new games for long periods of time instead of having consistent releases all throughout the company, I'd refer to activisions and blizzard policies seperately, but sadly really smug people are hostile to this notion and demand that activison-blizzard always be kept together in the same sentence, even when it gets downright confusing because people think its cute to hold blizzard accountable for any and all decisions activision make for their games, despite not praising activision for any of blizzards succesess, and like for the most part the company has stayed away from charging for characters and selling pay to win microtransactions unlike ea and apex legends/battlefront 2, and nintendo and fire emblem heroes/xenoblade2 but no lets all say apex is better than cod 4 black ops because even though hit detection can be shit and they charge for characters, but cod blops 4 is selling a reticle like oh please. Lets act as if nintendo is holy even though they've jacked up prices for games that are decades old, and have made fans on youtube miserabler for YEARS! ALSO TO EVERYONE hating on ActivisionBLIzzard for being greedy and surrounding themselves with dirty money, like really? REAlly? REAAAAAAAAlllllllly , cause you know who else wet their beak from activision blizzards money? Sony, microsoft, and steam, they got their fair share of cuts from micro-transactions and as for "Goody- two shoes sony, I guess were going to ignore them loving activision blizzards dirty money so much they made a deal to get exclusive content for their platform before hand.
However I guess ultimately I'm just confused as to why the company get so much hate, is that a lot of people hate it for being a company, like big surprise it's not a charity. I hear so many people proclaim that their not your friend don't give em an inch and show no sympathy, like ok when did they advertise that they were your friends and family? Community sure but that's truthful if they describe it as such. They make and sell products, maybe sometimes they might develop and charge for a product in a way you don't agree, ok sure don't buy it, critique it and try and convince blizzard how a different tactic can work out for everyone, holding hostility to a company for making greedy decisions is wierd, but I dunno the hatred is rather delusional in how exclusive it is. Steam actually broke gambling laws worldwide, whose neglicgence led to csgo lotto, Gabe newell made jokes about if he was bothered half-life 3 won't come out, nintendo now has 3 game associated with lootbloxes under their belt two of which is tied to ingame power, fire emblem heroes, and xenoblade 2, xenoblade being a paid game, and heck to everyone saying that the game publisher should be like cd projeckt red , or , warframe,, like cdprojeckt red basicly said git gud, when questioned about abusive labor practices, the warframe community recently begged the warframe developers not to overwork themselves, heck to all the people saying why can't activision make games like spiderman or god of wars, "exclusives" that anyone with half a brain knows already that those games exist to sell hardware rather than be profitable so third party developers would be encouraged to share profits with these companies! Why do you think epic is being shat on for their exclusives campaign, because people don't think their platform is a worthy competitor to steam, and yes I know metro didn't help but thats besides the point. Activision-blizzard in my eyes is a regular publisher thats decent and to an extent responsible, having released some of the most consistently polished and decent content out there, when ubisoft and ea was touting that singleplayer was dead activision decided to support sekiro shadow die twice, when ea and metro was calling their critiques idiots worthless, activison blizzard called them passionate, and I can't even find a record of them dipping into pay to win systems recently when I can't even say the same for nintendo sadly and yet people are now cheering for death, begging for no one to work with them, and I'm just left stunned by it all.

counter strike is my true love

lol people have been saying csgo is dying for years. Counter-Strike has been around for TWENTY YEARS next June. The core game is a masterpiece and similar games have come and gone. Countless hype games have come and gone. Legendary games have no playerbase.. but CSGO has half a million people playing right now and does have 24/7 it doesnt go up and down anywhere near as much as PUBG or even Dota2 which have more players in certain regions. CS is universally loved as a game and CSGO offers the most depth and skill ceiling of any CS game.. it will never die ! Valve will not make another version, only add modes and iterate on this one e.g weapon changes that affect the meta. Like TF2, there are a number of people who are so in love with the underlying game and will play it forever. Skins mean nothing to some of them. There are insanely skilled TF2 players who could move into other games and make a good living while they are still young enough, and they don't, they play for measly amounts of money because the game is amazing. CSGO is a much bigger variety of the same situation, so many people will play CS most if not all day, try other games but always come back to their one true love.

Pretty safe bet PUBG is so variable because China are all asleep at the moment. If you were to say PUBG is dying I would somewhat agree. Though its a piece of software not a living thing :P it has dropped off hard in popularity because its not a good experience day in day out, 30tick crap hitreg and lag/other issues plagued the game for too long!
