Watching ONE Championship’s Top 5 P4P fighters video on YouTube made me wonder: What would a hypothetical main card for a cross-promoted event with the UFC look like? What are the Top 5 fights I’d want to see of ONE vs UFC fighters?
I am very much aware that a cross-promotion involving the UFC is astronomically unlikely, but I think the thought experiment is interesting. The UFC would absolutely be the host, so I’ll use their structure of a 5-fight Main Card and a Featured Prelim. Filling out a full Prelim Card would go deeper than I really want to though. I have also been fairly lenient with weight classes, since ONE has all their weight classes shifted up 10-20 lbs. This is all just fun. Featured Prelim ONE Garry “The Lion Killer” Tonon vs Sodiq “Super” Yusuff UFC Battle of the Featherweight Prospects to cap off the Undercard. Garry Tonon is probably the most well known ONE prospect among Western fans, and especially Jiu Jitsu fans, but he’s essentially untested against quality competition. He has 5 Fights and 5 finishes including a 3 different submissions from 3 different positions and grappling entries (an RNC, a Guillotine and an Outside Heel Hook) and 2 TKO’s. Garry Tonon is one of the most prized BJJ players in the sport right as perhaps only Rodolfo Viera, Gilbert Burns, Ryan Hall and Mackenzie Dern hold better BJJ resumes. Yusuff on the other hand is a heavy-handed power puncher who recently entered the UFC Featherweight rankings at 15 following a decision win over Andre Fili. Yusuff holds an 11-1 record, 4-0 in the UFC with 2 TKO’s and 2 decisions. The win against Andre Fili should truly put him on every fans radar. Fili is a sneaky gatekeeper for the Featherweight rankings as his only UFC losses have come against Yusuff, Michael Johnson, Calvin Kattar, Godofredo Castro and Max Holloway (Castro is the only one who has not been a ranked UFC featherweight). That’s a bigger win than most fans probably recognised at the time. Ryan Hall or Kron Gracie would also have been an interesting fight for Garry here, but they may as well just take their gloves off and grapple. Plus you can find Kron vs Garry in BJJ on YouTube right now if you want. Main Card Fight 1 ONE Martin “The Situation-Asian” Nguyen vs Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski UFC This ones for the Aussie’s. I’ll admit to being biased on this one, but it’d still be a kick-ass fight. Martin Nguyen, the first Australian to win an MMA belt in a major promotion outside of Australia, versus Alexander Volkanovski, the current Australian UFC Champion. I’m just indulging myself, but it would probably also be a barn burner. Nguyen is 13-3 for his career 9 TKO’s and 3 Submissions. Martin is a Double Champ in ONE, having held the Featherweight and Lightweight titles, and also made a run at the Bantamweight strap but narrowly missing out on the vaunted TRIPLE C after losing a split decision to Bibiano Fernandez. Volkanovski is the favourite and current UFC 145lb Champion. Volk is, to use a common Aussie phrase, a nugget. A former Rugby League Player, the Champ didn’t start MMA until age 22 in an effort to stay fit for Rugby. He competed in Greco-Roman Wrestling at 97kg (214 lbs). Volk made his amateur MMA debut at Middleweight standing just 5’6” (168cm). For context, current MW Champ Israel Adesanya - Volkanovski’s current teammate - is 6’4”, 10 inches/28cm taller. Nonetheless, Volk went 4-0 as an amateur MW before abandoning Rugby and turning Pro. As a Pro, Volk won the strap in minor Australian promotions at 170, 155 and 145 before entering the UFC, where he debuted as a lightweight in 2016, just 7 years after starting MMA. He is a perfect 8-0 in the UFC with 3 TKO’s and 5 unanimous decisions. His only career loss came almost 7 years ago with a TKO loss at AFC 5. Both fighters are capable on the ground and on their feet. This would be a great fight. Fight 2 ONE Roman Kryklia vs Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya UFC Hear me out. This is a Kickboxing Matchup. ONE is a very different organisation. Not only do they have MMA fights, they also hold Muay Thai and Kickboxing fights interspersed within their events, and have reigning Champions for those sports. Roman Kryklia is the ONE 225lb LHW Kickboxing Champion. The Ukrainian has a 45-7 Kickboxing Record with 24 KO’s. He is a Ukrainian Master of Sport in Kickboxing and, at 28, is entering the prime of his career. Standing at 6’ 6.5”, Kryklia is a towering HW with hard hands. Adesanya was one of the best Kickboxers in the world before making the transition to MMA. He holds a 75-5 Kickboxing record with 29 KO’s. This includes multiple KO wins at Heavyweight. Adesanya is also a perfect 19-0 in MMA, 8-0 in the UFC with 3 KO’s and 5 decisions. His full Kickboxing record is difficult to find, so I can’t say just how many HW fights he’s had, but video of some impressive KO’s at that weight can be found on a YouTube. This honestly isn’t fair for Israel. Roman is much bigger, and Israel - brilliant as he is as a striker - hasn’t been a specialised kickboxer in 3 years. He has fought at HW, but would need time to get back to that size and to train for a specialised Kickboxing fight again. Betting lines would be skewed towards Israel because of the media hype and public money, so this would be the place for the gamblers to make their money betting on Roman. Fight 3 ONE Xiong Jing Nan vs Weili “Magnum” Zhang UFC These women would square off for the title of best fighter in China. I weighed up putting Angela Lee in here, who ONE promotes to the moon and back because she looks like this, as wel as being the ONE Atomweight (115 lb) Champion. But given how Lee faired when she went up a class to fight Xiong for the ONE SW belt, I feel Xiong would be the more well matched fighter to meet Weili’s physicality. It would surprise most to look at her and say that Xiong Jing Nan hits like a truck, but she does. She is 14-2 in her MMA career with 10 KO’s. Since joining ONE she is 5-1, with her only loss coming against Angela Lee for the ONE 115 lb AW belt, losing by submission. This fight was an immediate rematch, however, of a fight that Xiong won at 125 lb SW - her third successful defence of the belt. On the other side, Weili Zhang is the Straw Weight Queen. Coming off one of the greatest fights I’ve ever seen against Joanna, she is all heart, skill and determination. She would and should be an overwhelming favourite in this matchup, because I don’t see a single woman at that weight who can stand with her. After losing her first Pro fight, Zhang is on a 21 fight win streak dating back to April 2014. She is 21-1 with 10 KO’s and 7 Submissions. The first Chinese UFC Champion captured the title with a spectacular KO win over Jessica Andrade in front of her native crowd, and followed it up with the greatest WMMA Fight of All Time, a split decision win over former Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Co-Main ONE “The Burmese Python” Aung La N Sang vs Daniel “DC” Cormier UFC Aung is a veteran of the game. The Champ-Champ at 205 and 225 - the Middle and LHW limits at ONE - Aung has 37 Pro Fights with a 26-10-0-1 record. However since joining ONE, he has gone 11-1, and avenged his only loss to Vitaly Bigdash in an immediate rematch to capture the MW strap. Aung is on a tear at the moment with a stream of 6 straight finishes, including most recently against current ONE HW Champion Brandon Vera to defend his LHW strap. Oh yeah, Aung defends both belts simultaneously. He has 3 defences of the MW belt and 1 defence of the LHW belt, fighting at both weights in 2018 and 2019. He also has a win against Alain Ngalani who, though not a great fighter, is absolutely terrifying, and anyone who dares to stand in front of him should be commended. DC would obviously be the red hot favourite here though. However Aung is well rounded with skills on the ground and on the feet. I think this would actually be an excellent fight. Or it could totally blow as DC wins in a blowout. Only one thing would stop it from being the Main Event...... Main Event ONE Demetrius “Mighty Mouse” Johnson vs Henry “Triple C/The MessengeKing of Cringe” Cejudo This one writes itself. Mighty Mouse, the super-skilled, dominant P4P Great, against the Champ-Champ-Champ, the man he lost his belt to before being shipped out of the UFC in a revolutionary MMA trade. Dana’s red-headed stepchild is gone for good... Or so we thought... NANI??? Mighty Mouse is back for revenge. And this time, it’s personal. He’s eyeing off the King of Cringe, the Triple C, the man who took what was rightfully his: Henry Cejudo. This would absolutely have to happen in our imaginary Cross-Promotion, and it should Headline the show. With a storyline that juicy, every Combat Sports fan in the world would tune in. That’s my Hypothetical Cross-Promotional ONE-UFC Card. I would expect the UFC to take out 4 of these 6 fights, with Roman and Mighty Mouse taking 2 home for ONE. But these would be fun and competitive fights, for the most part, or at least fights that would get the Asian market to tune in for the UFC - the ultimate aim of a cross-promo. Surely the fights would have to be commentated by Rogan, Anik, Cruz and the GOAT Michael Schiavello. What fights would you have on this hypothetical card? How does Conor McGregor fit into all of this? Should Dana vs Chatri be the Real Main Event?
With everything going on last month this one is a little late, sorry gang! Missed Flight Missed a flight? Yes I am sure we all have, but let me tell you about this one, it must of happened about 14 years ago. Pat and I were driving along in our rental car, enjoying the last day of our holiday on the island of Crete. We had an amazing trip, I had studied "The Battle for Crete" for years and now I had the opportunity to walk in the footsteps (Tank tracks) of Roy Farren in the Tavrionites River. Climbing many hills and studying many maps and trying to understand how close the Battle for Crete really was. What a marvellous island and what rugged country to fight a war in. In my opinion, if anyone ever deserved to stop the invading Germans it surely must of been the people of Crete. Their army was overseas yet these people, even woman, attacked the invading German paratroops with anything they had, even kitchen knifes. We fell in love with Crete, the people, the food, their wine and beer and the raki! Oh I wish I could purchase raki in Manitoba. Suddenly Pat cried out "Look", nothing behind me so I hit the brakes. "Read that sign" I reversed so I could read the road sign. It was for a WW II monument but this one was not marked on our maps and nor had I ever read about it. By now the back seat was covered in my maps and books, a few I had brought with me but many more I had found in Crete. We turned off the main road and after a few miles we found ourselves in a little village. Across the road from the Village store was the entrance to a monument. I parked in the shade and we walked up to the wrought iron gates. I was appalled that a modern telephone kiosk was installed beside the gate. Modern telephone kiosk We opened the gate and walked in, it was very moving, suddenly we both realized we were in a very special place. We instinctively held hands and slowly walked down the paved pathway flanked by a mixture of old palm and fir trees. At the end was a stone monument flanked by two 40 mm Bofors AA guns. (These are scattered all over Crete) I checked them out, like all the others, the sights were missing, a sheet metal cover was padlocked over the action, but the action was greased as were the sight bases and levelling jacks. I stood up and looked around, where were the sights hidden? In which house? And I would bet anything there is a cache of ammo close to. Stone Monument To one side was a bronze plaque commemorating an Australian gun crew who had all been killed on this spot. I looked up into the beautiful, bright blue, peaceful sky and tried to imagine standing beside my 25 pdr while a JU87 Stuka dive bomber hurled down on to me. Better men than me I thought. Bronze Plaque Then we realized the whole place was a mess, garbage everywhere, we couldn't walk away. We crossed the street and entered the store, the girl spoke no English, I finally found a role of garbage bags; that was a start. Pat and I were studying the brooms and trying to decide what would work best when the manager approached us. He spoke fair English so I explained what we needed for our required task. The manager led us outside and unlocked a door, this opened into an Aladdin's cave of tools, a giant janitors closet. We selected a couple of brooms and a shovel, paid for our garbage bags and headed back to the memorial I think we filled 4 or 5 bags with old coke bottles, cans, paper and general trash. I looked up and there was my dear wife dusting a 40 mm Bofors as if it was the best Sunday china. So I decided to sweep the whole site of dust, sand, leaves and pine needles. Little did we realize that at this time our booked flight was departing from Crete. 40 mm Bofors AA guns We left the garbage bags beside the awful telephone kiosk outside the gate, I assume somebody took them away. By now several locals were taking a keen interest in our activities, we were given lots of smiles. We returned the brooms and headed away. We stopped at a beach side restaurant where we had previously had one of the most memorable meals of our life. The special was little fishes, we had a Greek salad, a tomato salad, a heaped plate or rather platter of "Little fish" that at 6 to 7 inches where larger than expected and a bottle of local wine, we were stuffed. Followed by raki, the surf was getting rough no swimming this evening I thought. We arrived at the hotel, close to the airport, we had only reserved our first two nights and our last night, the rest of the time we just went where we fancied, no schedule, no time table. While I checked in Pat picked up a newspaper, I was in no hurry to go back to the real world. We went up to our room, Pat looked at the newspaper, "It's the twenty seventh"... I replied that I had no idea of the date, it is Wednesday. "We fly home on the twenty seventh". Now we finished our holiday with a blazing row, this is not possible I thought. We went down stairs for supper, I made some phone calls, things were not looking good. No answers about tomorrow's flights. We went back to the room, time for a swim, I opened the balcony doors, the surf was roaring, no swimming tonight, "Let's go for a walk" I said. Our last night on Crete, the sand was great, the surf was really thundering in, after a long walk we went back to the hotel. No chance of checking flights until 8 am, I was assured that there would be room on the morning shuttle to Athens but my concern was what would happen after that, as we were a day late. We parked up the rental car, Pat directed me so that the rim I dented when I hit a rock (I was studying a local goat on a mountain road) was at 6 o'clock, hopefully it would be missed. We boarded the regular shuttle flight, the fact the ticket was a day late was of no concern. In Athens we were lucky to get a flight to Frankfort, now we were running about 28 hours late. In Frankfort we lucked out as the flight out had been cancelled due to mechanical problems and we got lumped in with these passengers, given some vouchers and bussed off to a beautiful little hotel in the German woods, all courtesy of Air Canada. We had a great supper, and room, all it cost us was the wine! Next day wasn't so good, priority was understandable given to the previous cancelled flight. After about 6 hours the girl at the check in (Lufthansa) called me up, I have found you two seats, but I am afraid they are "First Class". I was expecting to have to pay some huge fee but she saw my concern, gave me a great smile, "No problem sir, there is nothing extra to pay". The Gods were smiling on us, what had we done to deserve this, was it possible that the "spirits" of some Aussie Gunners were saying thank you to us. We flew back to Toronto in style, I certainly took full advantage of everything that First Class had to offer. We cleared customs in Toronto, when we went to check in our bags for the last flight to Winnipeg the Air Canada girl looked at my ticket. "This is all wrong, why did you miss your booked flight? Who's fault was that?" I looked at her and replied "My fault, mine alone". "How much extra did you have to pay?" I thought to myself, what business is that of yours, I looked at Pat "About 40 Euros I think". The pissy Air Canada girl replied, "I should charge you more, but I won't", we moved on. I thought to myself "Welcome home" right then I knew why in WW II some of our troops choose to stay behind in Crete, I wished I could have. Keep your powder dry, Mr Wolverine
UPDATE #4 30/12/2019: City of Sydney NYE fireworks confirmed going ahead. This is the man show centred on the Harbour Bridge.
UPDATE #3 30/12/2019: NYE celebrations in Campbelltown are cancelled, fireworks in Wollongong and Liverpool cancelled, rest of the show going ahead.
UPDATE #2 30/12/2019: NYE celebrations in Parramatta Park are cancelled.
UPDATE 30/12/2019: North Head and Bradley's Head viewing areas are closed tomorrow due to fire risk. Ticketholders will be refunded.
G'day ladies and gents,
We're 5 days now from NYE. I've ripped pretty much all this info off u/henry82 with his great post back in 2015 so people can ask questions without creating a million threads, and with general information. This can be stickied and updated as required.
Of course, there are 2 Reddit meetups on if you're looking for something to do. There's no view of the fireworks at Redfern, but alcohol is officially banned at Birchgrove.
Timings - "Kid’s fireworks" are at 9pm, Full fireworks are at midnight. Some people will leave at 9:30 following the kid’s fireworks, but expect it to be very busy. 95% of people will stay on.
Music - KIIS 106.5 will have the 'special choreographed stream'. ABC will show the fireworks, as will most FTA channels. Expect a vast range of D list celebrities entertaining you throughout the night. City of Sydney has released the official soundtrack for the fireworks shows. Find it here.
Accommodation - Anything "good" will have already been sold out, have a 3 day minimum, and be expensive. Your best bet is to look online at places like Wotif and see if you can find accommodation further outside the city.
Transportation - Sydney is a clusterfuck after fireworks, expect most of the CBD to be closed until 3am+. ROAD CLOSURE INFO HERE
Therefore take public transport. I'd personally advise you not to fare evade (even though Sydney Trains staff will open the gates to get the crowd through). Twice in the last few years i've had my ticket checked on NYD on the train coming home. Taxis/ubers/etc will all be in short supply. Surge pricing will occur. Be careful of drunk drivers and don't jaywalk.
If you're intending on taking public transport, buy an Opal Card if you don't have one already. It will take out a lot of the clusterfuck factor.
Public Transport - Some quick tips - more detail here Circular Quay trains will not stop (6pm-1am) Ferries do not operate during fireworks All buses to Wynyard, the QVB and Railway Square will stop at North Sydney. At all the train stations in or near the CBD, they will close off the smaller exits, and funnel everyone in through one entry. Expect there to be many queues to get on the train.
Safety - It's the busiest night of the year for the police, so they'll be cancelling leave and putting everyone on call. As per the FAQ ಠ_ಠ Don't loiter around the streets after the fireworks. The area around the Quay is well policed, underage drinkers used to hang out at "balls head" McMahons Point after smuggling alcohol through the checkpoint.
As mentioned previously, Sydney is a very safe place. It doesn't hurt to be careful though... it's a lot easier to put your camera/wallet away properly than to be making a police report.
Alcohol - Many areas will have bag checks, pretty much everywhere you want to drink will be an alcohol free zone. In the CBD, if you do get caught, you're likely to be told to pour it out. No Available Vantage Points allow BYO alcohol. Detection and enforcement efforts vary from place to place, but generally get stricter the closer in you get.
Buy your alcohol early. I mean now. The bottle shops will be crazy, and won't be chilled. Don't try and get in just prior to closing... it will only lead to disappointment. Trust me, I worked in one on NYE. Expect city based bottle stores to have a ridiculous mark-up. Lockouts are confirmed cancelled on NYE, but closing times have not changed
Food - Most shops want to close up early, so expect it to be pretty hectic in the evening. Particularly anything within a stone’s throw of Wynyard and Circular Quay. Maccas will be hectic. I'd recommend bringing a sandwich.
There are generally water bubblers throughout the city, however it can be very hard to navigate to one throughout the day. I recommend bringing your own. Woolies and Coles have 1.5L bottles for 80c. It can be very dehydrating sitting in the sun waiting for the fireworks. Wear your hat, bring a jacket if the weather looks windy.
Residents - Be aware if you live in an area near the CBD, there may be restrictions, including road closures. This means you're also subject to bag searches and all that. You may need to prove your identity to get in once the place is "full". The road leading to Balls Head/McMahons point comes to mind as one of the areas where it's closed early.
Boating - If you've got a boat, be aware it's going to be pretty crazy... that includes jetty access prior to the fireworks. There is an exclusion zone in effect. Make sure you have a sober (and correctly licensed) captain, and enough life jackets for everyone. The water police are out in full force, and they will be performing RBTs.
Day after - Be aware it takes a while for alcohol to process through your system. Even if you don't feel drunk, you may be over the limit... especially P-platers. It's a double demerits too, so just play it safe.
FAQ RE: BUSHFIRES
Will the bushfires stop the fireworks? No.
What would cause the fireworks to be cancelled? A severe risk on the night, such as high winds. See the cancelled 9PM show in 2002-03 as an example. This is not related to the bushfires though, and is a possibility every year.
Shouldn’t they cancel the show and give the money to bushfire victims? What money? The money earmarked for the show has already been spent, and CoS wouldn’t be able to get a refund.
What if I feel guilty about having a good time while the fires destroy livelihoods and lives? Then donations can be made to The Red Cross through the Sydney NYE website.
The idea of people watching the show and having fun fills me with RAGE. Then stay home and ignore the show. No-one is forcing you to join in.
TLDR: Be prepared, Don't be a dick Suggested sort: new
[self] Long shot. I'm looking for a Man named Paul, he works in tech/IT he knew me as Tina McCulough and my 20 year old brother was named Philip. Mum died in 2014, I live in the us and I miss him. Last contact was 11-8 years ago with my mum, he worked at a Uni in Adelaide then.
EDIT!!!! GUYS YOU ARE ALL LEGENDS I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU FOUND HIM! I've been searching for years and you guys found him in a day! <3 <3 Thank you all so, so, so, SO much for the help and support! My mind is blown! Just as I remember, Aussies really are the most AMAZING people in the world. If I ever get back down to Australia you can bet you're all Getting PM's to beer and BBQ (I'll make american BBQ seeing as I've been living in the south lately and can't compete with yours) :P Thank you so much! you've all helped reunite me with someone I consider family. You don't know what this means to me! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ All the details I have; I was a kid when I knew him. like 8-12. He was like a second father to me, or a really cool uncle. I miss the HELL out of him and lost contact when I lost all of my mum's email info after she passed. She used aliases for us both (mum.....had issues) Her name was Susan back then. Paul would babysit me and took us to a beach park with a huge slide in a hill. introduced me to pokemon before it came out in australia via a rom on his pc. He owned a tech repair shop back then and moved on to working at universities as a IT guy after we left. I searched the Adelaide uni sites for their employee's with no luck. his 2 girls would stay at our house when he had them and we were good friends. I don't know where or how to seek him out. Any ideas? We lived in morphet vale I think. I don't know where he lived in town. He knew us through his friend Wayne. and mum dated a biker named Geno after, to add details that may jog a memory from one of his kids if they're on here or something.
I'm a long-term Warriors fan (I'm not looking for your sympathy!) and I'll be in Sydney on the opening weekend of the season. I'm thinking of getting a train up to Newcastle to see the game, so what's my best bet for getting tickets? If I go to the Aussie Ticketmaster site it keeps trying to redirect me back to the NZ site.
Another bet the sub might like to get behind (FIBA World Cup 2019)
After our incredible journey on the 5 day cricket test match, I would completely understand if you didn't want to put yourself through the emotional rollercoaster again. I wouldn't post on here unless I had done some research and determined that I really liked this bet. I'll preface the write-up by saying that this is no "lock of the century," but I do think the bookies have underrated this severely. I will explain my reasoning below. Format: (1) The pick (2) The odds + bookmakers (3) Reasons why this bet could LOSE (4) Reasons why I really like this bet (5) TLDR (1) Giannis Antetokounmpo to lead the 2019 FIBA World in total points scored (2) I got in at 5.00 (decimal)/ +400 American on Bet365, however, regrettably this has gone down to 4.5/ +350. On other Aussie bookmakers, you can fetch:
4.6/ +360 on Topsport
4.0/ +300 on Beteasy
4.33/ +333 on Sportsbet
3.5/ +250 on Pointsbet (sorry, I made this one drop from 4.5/ +350 as well).
I'm sure my international friends can find comparable odds at your respective betting sites. (3) It's always important to consider how the bet can fall apart. Only considering the positives lends itself to making biased decisions, nit-picking only the information which helps your argument. So, here's where things can go wrong:
We need him to beat a field of essentially 100's of other players - although realistically it's about 10 guys who can win. To name a few, we have Bogdanovic of Serbia, Mitchell and Kemba of USA, Mills of Australia (woo!), Schroder of Germany, Fournier of France, Jokic of Serbia and so on.
Giannis sat out Greece's last warm-up game with "knee irritation". This is most likely just a team cautiously sitting their lone star in a meaningless game, but you never know. Having not heard anything to the contrary, I am assuming he will not miss any time, but injuries are just a reality we have to deal with when betting on sport.
We are relying on Greece progressing past the group stages: if they somehow fall apart and do not progress, then this bet is kaput (if you don't know what that word means, look it up).
(4) These are the reasons why I think this bet is tremendous value, with the final point being the real kicker.
I think it goes without saying Giannis is the star of the tournament. He averaged 27.7ppg last NBA season and is the reigning MVP. His play in the warm ups has shown he is in good form and is very passionate about leading Greece. This isn't a chore for him and there is no hidden agenda. He is here to win.
He should score with ease; his size puts him up there with most team's tallest player, while possessing the agility of a guard. As an example, he scored 26 points against Dominican Republic the other day in a measly 22 minutes. A couple weeks ago he had 18 vs Italy in just 19 minutes. Keep in mind that FIBA matches are only 40 minutes, and Giannis will probably see 30+ minutes on average. In previous World Cups the top scorers usually average points in the low 20's. I think Giannis should comfortably reach that benchmark, hopefully dropping a 30 point game or two.
Greece are the third favourite to win the tournament, suggesting that they are expected to make at least the final 8 (you'll understand shortly why that is the benchmark we are aiming for).
The format has changed this year. This is the most important point and where I think the books have missed something. Try keep up...
2010 was the last year that the World Cup included Classification games. These are games in which teams who got knocked out in the quarter finals, would still play consolation games to be given a final classification (i.e. to determine who officially finishes 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th).
So this means that even if you got knocked out in the quarter finals (final 8), you would still have 2 more games remaining, instead of ending your tournament prematurely.
To see a visual representation, see here:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_FIBA_World_Championshipand scroll down to Championship Bracket. You'll notice that Russia get knocked out by USA in the quarter finals, then subsequently lose to Argentina in the Classification round, yet still play another game against Slovenia to determine 7th place.
Now you might ask: do these games count towards "tournament points scored?" Which is exactly what I was wondering...
This year they are bringing the classification system back!
ALSO... (this is important too): they are now employing 2 group stages. There will be 8 groups of 4, with each team playing 3 games. The top 2 teams from each group will move on to the second group stage, where 2 teams from one group will merge with 2 teams from another group to form a new group of 4. They will then proceed to now play another 2 games (this is because they don't play against the team who was in their group in stage 1). So by making it out of the first round, you are automatically going to play 5 games. If you make it out of the second group stage you are now in the quarter finals. Regardless of whether you win a game from here or not, you will play 3 more games (because, remember, even if you get knocked out at this point, you move to the Classification round). See here: http://www.fiba.basketball/basketballworldcup/2019#|tab=event_brackets for the official bracket format for this year's tournament.
So how does this dramatically boost Giannis' chances? Anyone who has made a bet like this (be it, most goals scored in the Fifa World Cup, most goals scored in the AFL Finals series, Most points scored throughout the NBA playoffs) will understand that this is partly a bet on the individual player, but also a bet on the team. If the team gets knocked out early, it is rare - almost impossible even - for the player to win the statistical category. But all Greece need to do is make the quarter finals for Giannis to reach the maximum of 8 games. At this point, no player can play more games than Giannis and it is essentially a bet of who will average the most PPG. If it comes down to a PPG battle, I think Giannis would be an odds-on favourite to win that.
What do Greece need to do to reach the quarter finals? First, they must finish top 2 in their group. The other teams they are competing with are Brazil, Montenegro and New Zealand. I am fairly confident that Greece should not drop a single game here (for context, they are paying 1.10/ -1000 to beat Montenegro in their first game of the tournament). If they proceed to group stage 2 the top two teams in their group will merge with the top 2 teams of group E (USA, Czech Republic, Turkey, Japan). We can assume that USA will probably emerge as the top seed in this group, so the only place our bet can really falter, is if Greece somehow finish below the team who accompanies USA from group E, or the team which accompanies Greece from group F. Keep in mind thatpoints from group stage 1 carry over to group stage 2. Meaning that the team accompanying USA from group E will likely have 1 loss and (assuming Greece sweep their group), the team who accompanies them will also have a loss, while USA and Greece will be 3-0. This would be highly advantageous in terms of advancing to the quarter finals.
(5) TLDR: Bet on Giannis Antetokounmpo to lead the 2019 FIBA World in total points scored at odds of about 4.5/ +350 because the changed format means that it is very likely Greece will play the maximum of 8 games, and if that comes to fruition, Giannis will be the overwhelming favourite to outscore everyone else. EDIT: There is also a classification round for teams 9-16 and 17-32, but I do not know if these games will count towards the official tournament statistics. If they do, then I think this bet is even better, but I am not relying on it. If anyone knows the answer I'm keen to hear.
I've spent 4 months travelling India this year - some thoughts and pictures!
Here are my photos! https://imgur.com/a/xC5wML5 They're all very jumbled and sorry about the amount of Taj photos, an Indian tour guide basically dragged me around and turned it into a photoshoot o_o: I just got back, and thought I should write something like this. I know people have a lot of apprehension & perceptions about travel in India. I mainly, aside from Goa and a short trip to Mumbai, focused on the north of the country because of the seasons. I'll first give my general thoughts then go into detail about the places I visited for anyone wanting something a bit more specific! Feel free to ask me any questions too! General thoughts: It's an amazing country, and nothing quite like I had experienced. The reason I initially went to India is I didn't want to take that "typical" banana pancake route, which isn't to dismiss countries in SE Asia (I've been in Thailand for the other four months of the year when I wasn't in India, I love it!), but at times it can feel a bit easy and conventional. Everything tends to be set up for you and you're viewed, often, as just another Western tourist. India, in contrast, is more of an adventure. And Indians tend to be very interested in you and why you're here. Quite possibly my favourite thing about India was the other travellers I met in the hostels - including Indians who are travelling their own country. Everyone was so open minded and on their little adventure, whether that be spiritual, on a crazy bike ride to Leh, or just wanting to tackle India. You'd sometime meet people in their 50s and 60s stay in hostels, but there was no judgement and everyone was interested in hearing their story. This I much preferred to Thailand, which I found can be a mix of British/Aussie LADS wanting to get drunk, and your 'typical' backpacker - it creates an odd atmosphere. With that said... getting around in India is so simple! The buses are fantastic and are sleeper buses, meaning you get to lay down and your own bed. For a 6-7 bus ride and your own bed, it'll be about £8. I took more buses for the simple reason they were easier to book. Booking trains is a pain as they can often be sold out, but hostels will do it for you. The trains in India, of course, are amazing and cheap too. Your train or bus may sometimes be an hour or two late, but I really didn't find getting around difficult or stressful. It just takes a while because it is a huge country. The stress of travelling comes with how hectic the train stations can be and how hot is often is. Case in point: My train from Agra to Delhi was delayed four hours. For the first hour, I was sat on the floor sweating my ass off frustrated and bored. However - I saw an 'executive lounge' - anywhere in the world, this would cost a lot. But it was 150 rupees for 2 hours, free wifi, free coffee, an aircon room, and a comfy seat. You bet I'm going to pay £1.50 for that luxury. Any decent size city has Uber too, which works well and avoids rickshaws drivers who will want to rip you off (they will try it.) My personal highlight of India was Varanasi as I was there for Holi. It was genuinely, one of the best days of my life. So. Much. Fun. Running around the banks of the Ganges and tiny streets of Varanasi throwing colours at Indians and little kids throwing them at us from rooftops... it was the perfect place to spend Holi IMO (I somehow ended up on Indian news: https://scontent.flhr4-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/55865206_2218322758385255_4945894281475784704_o.jpg?_nc_cat=104&_nc_oc=AQk4cL39Pd7agQqYqlUiyFUjIAcwauJLWmTU_VbuLf5rs--zRO4HW0T1RL1VhUf7g1k&_nc_ht=scontent.flhr4-1.fna&oh=25c0f257bfa1a7d664f487c58e5c2fb2&oe=5DF187A7). If you can coincide your trip to India with a festival, do. Varanasi itself is crazy, there is nothing else like it. It is the oldest city in the world that is still inhabited, and boy does it show. It is out of the way in the sense there is nothing else around it, but go there for sure. Seeing dead people being burnt can be a bit WTF, but the whole experience of Varanasi is WTF. Take a boat on the Ganges in the morning. New Delhi: Where most will fly into and where I spent an age. First of, it isn't that dirty. It isn't that unclean. And once you're past the initial shock, the craziness of no traffic rules, poverty, and constant beeping... isn't *that* hectic. The pictures you often see of the dirty areas with low hanging cables and people pushing carts are Old Delhi. Which is only a small part of the city and is something to see. It's chaos. I went one day when it was around 40c, and the amount of people, pollution, chaos... it was mentally exhausting. Thankfully, my hostel was located in an affluent gated community in Haus Khas - Madpackers Hostel. This was the best hostel I've ever stayed at. Ever. The staff are wonderful and I must have spent about a month there. If you stay in Delhi, go here. I stayed at a few other hostels in Delhi, all very nice, but didn't have the atmosphere or staff that Madpackers did. In terms of what to do in New Delhi, there is so much to see and do. I was very, very, impressed with Humayun's Tomb (it really wasn't that far behind the Taj Mahal in terms of enjoyment) and Akshardham (no pictures allowed, but LOOK at it! https://2.hlimg.com/images/stories/738X538/akshardham-temple-is-one-of-the-largest-temples-in-the-world_1458212384m.jpg, I'd never actually heard of it before I arrived - I don't know why it doesn't get more attention). People sometimes recommend getting out of New Delhi ASAP, but I disagree. Stay, combat and embrace your initial shocks and how overwhelmed you are, because you will eventually adjust and start to love it. Give Delhi 5-6 days. There's plenty to do. I stayed for weeks for a variety of reasons. Rishikesh: Rishikesh is beautiful. I don't have a lot to say about it, but it is a very focused on yoga, ashrams, and meditation. It's a chill place with lots of weed and good cafes and music. Also opportunity for water rafting etc. It's where The Beatles stayed in India, and make sure you go to The Beatles Ashram! IMO, If you have little desire to stay in an Ashram or try yoga, you won't really feel that comfortable there. I felt a little bit out of place because I wasn't really on a spiritual/mindfulness journey of my own and I'm more suited to big cities. I felt it be a bit weird dynamic in general, as it felt 50/50 Western travellers there for Yoga etc and Indians, who were there for their own spiritual journey - Rishikesh is the start of the Ganges so a lot visit. Make sure to go to Haridwar, which is a pilgrimage site for Hindu's where they have a ceremony every evening. It is about 20 minutes away from Riskikesh and worth it. Manali: I never had a picture in my mind of India having the beauty you'd expect in Colorado or Switzerland. The pictures in the link speak for themselves. It was stunning. The forest photo is in Manali too. There's a lot of adventure sport around Manali you can do, water rafting, paragliding, and a lot of hiking opportunity regardless of your skill. As for the town of Old Manali itself - I loved it. It is so cool. They have an amazing live music scene here which attracts cool people. It feels very hippie with lots of weed and is very chill, but without feeling 'cliche' hippie and without really feeling 'spiritual' or any emphasis on meditation or yoga like Pushkar or Rishikesh. It has similar vibes to Goa, Pushkar, an Rishikesh, but I felt more home here as it felt 'real'. Old Manali is basically one street of amazing cafes, places you can book your adventures, fantastic restaurants and bars and very good stalls for shopping. I wish I spent more time here and I can see how people spend weeks and months here. From Manali a lot of people then rent a motorbike up to Leh for the snow capped mountains and again, even incredible scenery. I didn't, as I don't drive in the UK. So wasn't about to start in the Himalayas in India. Maybe one day. Getting to Manali is a bit of a pain. It is 15 hour bus ride from Delhi and only semi-sleeper buses are available, no sleepers. But you seriously feel like you're suddenly in a different world. It's much colder, more beautiful, and the Indian people look different. Pushkar: Another really spiritual place for Indians where pilgrims bathe. To be blunt: I hated this place. It has similarities to Varanasi in the sense they are both very spiritual places for Indians and a pilgrimage. But Varanasi still feels like it is for Hindus - foreigners are an extreme minority. Pushkar, in contrast, is out to get your money. I told a "holy man" who I *knew* I was out to scam me I wouldn't be giving him any money. He says that's fine. So I give him the benefit of the doubt. He tells me to put a flower in the lake (I had read about this scam), so I reiterate no money. He says fine. I put the flower in the lake. He then says some holy stuff. It all feels very nice. He then, of course, demands money and gets angry. I say no. He then tells me he will curse me and my family. I say OK and walk away. The next day, my phone breaks. Probably should have paid him. If you're in India for Holi, people will recommend you spend Holi here. Don't. You'll be spending it with other foreigners, paying £30 a night, and in a place out to your money. I didn't have one "authentic" experience in Pushkar. Spend Holi somewhere like Delhi or Varanasi. Jaipur: The 'entry' city to Rajasthan and the pink city. I didn't like it as much as Delhi, but it is a cool big city with lots to see and do and starts feeling a bit more 'deserty'; you start seeing the camels and forts that characterise Rajasthan.I spent 2 hours driving around with a Tuktuk driver who stopped me, asked where I was going, then helped me find a pharmacy with a drug I was looking for, then didn't want any money for it and said I can come drink chai with his family in the morning if I wanted. Cool guy. Goa: It was approaching low season when I was in Goa so the big parties weren't in swing. It was a nice place to relax, but I didn't vibe with it that much. I think I was so use to seeing authentic 'Indian' things and had adjusted to the craziness of Delhi, that when I got to Goa I saw other foreigners and Indians on a holiday destination just relaxing. There wasn't any sense of adventure or anything I hadn't seen on the islands of Thailand. Still, was sunny, lots of psychedelic drugs and parties if that's your thing, and the colonial Portuguese inspired architecture and churches were the coolest thing about it IMO. It's very expensive for India too. Agra and visiting the Taj Mahal: Okay, I'm posing like a fucker in them pictures. I know. But there was genuinely no one else around me when I got in, and boy was I going to make the most of that. It took me until the end of my trip to get to the Taj, and it was starting to feel like a chore as my experience of the 'big' tourist attractions hasn't been great (I found the Great Wall pretty stressful, partly my own fault with where I went). But the Taj Mahal was amazing. It lived up to expectations and it was cool standing looking at it reflecting on my last few months. It opens 30 minutes before sunrise, so 0530 for me. I went through the Eastern entrance, arrived around 0510, got my ticket, and queued for a bit. I was one of the first in then an Indian tour guide took one of picture of me and it turned into a photoshoot. He knew all the great spots so I just rolled with it whilst he dragged me around lol. It was seriously amazing having one side of the Taj Mahal to myself. Stay at Joey's Hostel. It's a five minute walk from the entrance and has views of the Taj from its restaurant. Madpackers are opening a hostel there which the staff were bigging up, so keep an eye out for that. I met plenty of female solo travellers during my time in India. I can only repeat what they told me. For the vast vast majority, their trip was fine. Yes, you will get stares. One British girl I went out with was showing quite a bit of cleavage and wearing very low shorts lol, she didn't give a fuck - but pretty much every Indian guy walking by made no secret of where his eyes were going. I mentioned Holi was one of the best days of my life, but sadly for the two British girls I was with, they were being groped and touched - a lot. But Holi gives an excuse for Indian men to touch a Western woman (as well as throwing colours, you hug and wish each other happy holi). The girls I were with, however, didn't take it and smacked the Indian men and caused a scene. I also saw a Indian police officer wack one of the Indian men with a bamboo stick for doing it. I must say there is a big effort from the government to improve the situation (female carriages, lots of posters and banners), and obviously not all Indian men are like this. I didn't meet any female travellers who told me that it had got in the way of their trip or ruined it for them - but it really depends on you as an individual IMO. That's about everything I think! Obviously India is very cheap, expect to pay £1-6 a night for a hostel. Average about £4. I purposely travel very slow and didn't get around to visiting all of Rajasthan (Jaisalamal, Jodhpur, and Udaipur are meant to be incredible too) but that gives me an excuse to go back. The south, Karela and Hampi, are also meant to be spectacular. I could have seen a lot more during my time, but I prefer really getting to know where I am and staying a while. A word about the hostel and backpacker scene in India these days... it's amazing! 15 years ago practically no hostels existed. But there are *a lot* now, and 4/5 big chains. Zostel is everywhere and can vary in terms of atmosphere. The one in Jaipur is v good. Hosteller is normally quite good. Madpackers only have four hostels at the moment, but they are by far the best chain. The staff move around each hostel to keep it fresh, and they really focus on fostering atmosphere. The owner does his best to make sure he gets the best buildings, but also the best staff. I spoke to the owner and he wants to open another five this year, so the hostel scene is really exploding. All the hostels I stayed in are clearly new, so are very clean and the staff tend to be enthusiastic too. The backpacker scene in India I really think will continue to grow. It's cheap and full of hostels. And amazing. Final verdict & word on Indian people: They're fantastic and take a real interest in you. I've lost count the amount of 'random' interactions I had with Indian people in parks, on the metro, or at a tourist attraction. They genuinely have a real interest in knowing where you're from, and are often very thankful you've come to their country. I loved this, and is the biggest difference from SE Asia. Learning a tiny bit of Hindi goes a bit of way too. But yeah, that's that! Feel free to ask anything :D here are my pics again https://imgur.com/a/xC5wML5
When it comes to online sports betting regulation, the USA is still on its infancy. On May 2018, the Supreme Court opened the way for states to pave their own legislation regarding sports betting offers. New Jersey was one of the first states to apply legislation on this matter, having 16 websites offering and accepting online sports wagers. Many of the websites also have Apps available so players can download them onto their devices and use them while on the go.
What to Expect from a Sportsbook App
In order to legally function in the state of New Jersey, online sportsbooks need to be licensed by the Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE). The first step players who want to go mobile must take is, therefore, to find a fully licenced site and beware of the - still - many unregulated bookies operating on the market. Ever since sports betting became legal in the Garden State, a huge percentage of all the money legally gambled was done either online or on mobile. Whether wagering on NBA or NFL events, Hockey or even MMA, a look at the growing list of NJ Sportsbooks Apps available in Gamble USA can show that New Jersey already has plenty of variety to choose from.
888sport Sportsbook App
888sport, along with its sister sites 888casino and 888poker, belongs to 888 Holdings and offers an App fit for both Android and iOS. This sportsbook has lots of options when it comes to betting, like Tennis, Nascar, English Premier League, Basketball, Bowling or all the major US leagues. It has around 3547 markets available and a great Welcome Bonus. Players who register get a risk-free bet of up to $500. This means that 888sport will give back the money of the lost bets made with the first deposit. The sportsbook offers 24/7 customer support by email, phone and live chat and lots of payment options, from the traditional credit and debit cards to modern e-wallet solutions like Skrill or Neteller.
DraftKings Sportsbook App
Draftkings is already a household name when it comes to sports betting. With roots on fantasy sports, this established company has over 10 million registered users worldwide and offers a sign-up bonus of up to $1000, made of a deposit bonus and a first bet match of $500 each. The sportsbook app is quick to install and offers a great array of wagering chances, be it on Motorsports, Darts, Golf or Boxing. It’s available for both Android and iOS and can be contacted via live chat or email in case any issue occurs during gameplay. When it comes to payment methods, Draftkings options are a bit limited, only having the traditional debit and credit cards and Paypal.
PointsBet Sportsbook App
PointsBet is an Australian product introduced in 2019, offering dynamic betting to New Jersey sportsbook fans. The sportsbook offers a great welcome package comprised of 2 risk-free bets, each offering a $500 cashback. The app is available for both Android and iOS and the markets on offer include soccer, darts, motorsports and even Aussie football. It also has a really good choice for NFL and NBA sports wagering and lots of betting features. Customer support is available 24/7 and can be contacted via email, live chat and phone. Banking options, however, are not that much, with e-checks, credit and debit cards, online banking and PointsBet prepaid card available.
William Hill Sportsbook App
One of the biggest operators in the world, William Hill has been a household name for many years and almost a synonym for betting. With a long history in brick and mortars, William Hill made a transition to mobile and now also has an app taking New Jersey players by storm. The app is available both in Android and iOS and has great wagering opportunities and features. With a responsive design, the platform offers sports betting in markets such as Hockey, Football, Golf or Baseball and lots of bet types. The support is available 24/7 by phone, email and live chat. Banking options are a bit limited, though. Players can deposit funds via e-check, credit and debit cards, William Hill prepaid card and even visit a William Hill location in NJ. Withdrawals are a bit more tricky, as right now, they’re only available via prepaid card or on location.
No matter the choice of Sportsbook App, players need to bear in mind some issues before downloading any of it and start enjoying some sports wagering. Gambling in New Jersey can only be done if players are located within the borders of the state, even when playing on mobile. Android users must also beware that Google Play does not allow any money wagering and gambling apps in the App Store in the USA. This means that Android users need to download the apps, when available, directly from the websites by following the instructions normally available.
/r/Coronavirus - "‘People Would Be So Receptive Right Now, and We Can’t Knock on Doors.’ The pandemic has put a stop to the activities of one of the nation’s most visible religious groups, Jehovah’s Witnesses"
I am a bot! Please send NotListeningItsABook a private message with any comments or feedback on how I work. EDIT: As of Tue Apr 21 13:04:19 UTC 2020, the post is at [323pts|37c]
Normally, I would give a Jehovah’s Witness a quick “No, thank you,” and an equally quick closing of my door. Now, my reaction would be, “ Get the fuck away, you goddamn plague bearer.” Now is not the best time for door-to-door proselytizing.
Oh no! I'm so sad! I've always wanted to be in a brainwashed, child molesting, shunning cult who thinks everyone who is not a Jehovah's witness will die at Armageddon. They call themselves "true Christians" and everyone else who is not one of them is referred to as satan's tool and a "worldly person". If you don't know, now ya know ugh 🤢
They also don't help out local communities. They say they do by spreading the word, but they don't even have second hand stores or food banks. They don't reinvest in their communities. And yes, there are some that are calling this an "exciting time" because they see it as one of the signs Armageddon is coming. It's what they live for. There's nothing worse than a smug gloating face of a JW.
Yeah, my Dad’s side of the family is JW. My grandfather died because my family refused blood transfusions and surgery - my Dad was 28, the same age I am now. The entire family is split because of religion, and anything JW leaves a bad taste in my mouth. My vulnerable grandmother was converted by a door knocker in the 1950’s... since then, three generations of family are majority devout Jehovah. No working, dating, marrying, or mingling outside the faith allowed, so my family (Dad left long ago, married a secular woman) isn’t invited to anything or recognized at all. I recently met a few second cousins who have left the church in the past few years, and other than that, I only know my Mom’s side of the family. TLDR; Jehovah’s Witnesses suck, it’s a real life cult if you do it right, and the cult ruined my family. Also, sorry I went on a rant just then — I just rejoice in the thought of jehovahs not knocking on doors
Jehovah’s Witnesses are instructed to not read or watch anything that isn’t approved by the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society. No it hasn't, or at least not in Canada. I've never actually had a Jehovah's Witness knock on my door since I have been at this address (nearly eight years), but a week ago I got a hand addressed envelope addressed to homeowner. Figuring it was one of the older neighbours reaching out because no social media connections, I opened it. Handwritten four page letter from someone identifying as my neighbour and a Jehovah's Witness, and enclosing a copy of--you know it--Watchtower Magazine. I can't even be annoyed. That was some planning and execution involved to create basically junk mail.
No, no, use Disassociated instead. Here's the difference:
**Disfellowshipped JWs were kicked out against their will**, often still believe that JWs have "The Truth" (yes, they capitalize it like that at times) and act like whipped puppies. They're often too willing to allow the other JWs to humiliate them and the JW elders to debase them, just to be able to talk to their JW family and friends again. Disassociated JWs left of their own free will, often after seeing through the lies and double-talk of the JW leadership. They often become effective at exposing and deconstructing the illogical and fantastical JW teachings, and most JWs consider THEM to be apostates - and avoid them like the plague.
Two members of my house would be VERY receptive to this. They just wait for people they do not know to knock on the door then loudly let the rest of the house know someone has entered their territory. Not sure how the JWs would like a greeting by two German Shepherds though.
I hope you one day have the courage to ask yourself why you cannot read any Bible on your own and ask non JW's questions. If your faith will not stand up to challenges, maybe it's not something you want to bet your life on. I mean this only in the best way.
Part of my family are Jehovah Witnesses (the mainly good kind w/o brainwashing), and Im sure there are people who miss the weekly interactions. Just because you don’t agree with part of their religion doesn’t mean they don’t do any good/
My mother is a JW, in her 80's, and in desperate need of a blood transfusion because of a serious heart condition. She refuses because there was a time in her life where she was not very devout and if she dies because of her refusal, she hopes it will help her gain her salvation. So sad and nothing the rest of the family can do.
Yet there are some who point out that the organization has had to make adjustments before, and so they argue: “This shows that we have to make up our own mind on what to believe.” This is independent thinking. Why is it so dangerous? ... 20 Such thinking is an evidence of pride. And the Bible says: “Pride is before a crash, and a haughty spirit before stumbling.” (Proverbs 16:18) If we get to thinking that we know better than the organization, we should ask ourselves: “Where did we learn Bible truth in the first place? 21 When we consider the mighty spirit forces who are fighting against us, we must acknowledge that on our own we could not possibly win. Yet with God’s backing, and with the help and support of his organization—our worldwide association of brothers—we cannot lose. (Psalm 118:6-12; 1 Peter 5:9) However, we must never forget that we are in a spiritual war, and that wartime is no time to be relaxing, enjoying only leisure and the pleasures of life. Rather, it is the time for vigorous training, alertness and self-sacrifice. The enemy has been able to get some from among us to relax their guard, and these have become battle casualties. May this never happen to us! It will not if we keep on “the complete suit of armor from God” and “stand firm against the [crafty acts] of the Devil.”
All of that is fussing against "independent" thinking...
I am an exjw. No. that must be your grandparents only. Goodness! being an antivaxxer plus jw is a bit too much. Jws were against vaccination between 1921-1952 and then changed (as they change so many of their doctrines) so perhaps your grandparents are still holding on to the past teachings. They were also against organ transplants in the past. For a good summary of Jws past truly cringe worthy medical advice, here is a useful link : https://jwfacts.com/watchtowemedical.php
It's an interesting problem from a strategical point of view. Other industries are trying to compensate. Restaurants push take-out, for example. Do the Jehovah's Witnesses ever proselytize online? They could lurk in threads full of people apparently seeking spiritual guidance and susceptible to woo and start messaging people who sounded like potential converts.
The jehovahs witnesses used to ring our doorbell at around 7:30am-8am in the morning EVERY SATURDAY. They annoyed SO many people, the city council or whatever banned them from going to your house until after like 10pm. They’re so damn annoying.
The JW go door to door trying to shove their beliefs down others throats. Contrary to common belief they are not actually Christians as they dont believe that christ's sacrifice is enough nor do they believe he is the son of god. They also somehow believe that the 14400 christ following Jews mentioned are them, leaving out the part about that the 14400 are jews, and that only 14400 will get paradise. They also will shun family and friends that leave JW. A dear friend of mine took his life after his parents refused to speak to him or even permit him at the dinner table. JW has hurt so many people and are a lot like Mormons, a vile cult.
Get royally fucked Jehovah's Witnesses. My best friend in high school killed himself because his dad found out that he masturbated and reported it to the church, who shamed him to the point of not wanting to live anymore. Jehovah's Witnesses are quite literally Satan pretending to be like Jesus.
PRO TIP: The magic word for Jehovah's Witnesses is disfellowshipped. Tell a JW you've been disfellowshipped (their code word for being kicked out of JW), and he'll give you a look of surprise, disgust, and fear - and you'll never see him again.
If you see a jehovah's witness doing that online, ignore them. They're actually told not to do so. At the moment they just hold online church gatherings with members only, if they're following the stay at home orders. Cant help if there are idiots that never read that God wont save you from stupid decisions like ignoring stay at home orders.
Former exjw reporting in. should be tagged *good news* as far as I'm concerned! And yes, for those of you wondering, it's as crappy as it sounds. The Pew reserach center confirms that JWs (of all religions in the US, including evangelicals):
Have the lowest % of post secondary education
Highest % of religious attendance, prayers and bible study outside of services.
Have the highest consistency of belief that their religion can only be interpreted one way.
Have the highest opposition to homosexuality and access to abortion
Have the highest consistency of beliefs that their religion is the only one that leads to salvation.
My elderly parents are in lockdown at my place and my Dad is a JW. They were doing some sort of virtual meetings on the internet since day one. It was weird seeing him sitting in front of his computer dressed in his sunday best. "You know it's just a live stream, so they can't see you Dad..." "God can" "Oh... right... carry on then"
Anyone use Intertops and can’t access the site? Getting an Error 522 and saying connection timed out saying the Host for Intertops is down. Highly frustrating as I can’t place any Aussie Open bets for tonight. Edit: I got back in for about 30min, then it went down again for about 2 hours, went back up and was working before I went to bed, now again down in the morning. Edit 2: Back up again... but no NCAAB lines and it is past 10am central. These guys blow. Edit 3: Was up for 10-15min, down again. Might as well not edit anymore with the amount of times this is happening.

Literal definition of 'betting', specifically online. I'm not planning to be a weekly gambler, I just want to place three bets on the Kings, one to win their Division, one to win the Western Conference, and one to win the Cup. I will be doing my own research as well, but I'd be interested to know what others experiences have been with online gambling sites. In spite of my username I am in the U.S. (transplanted Aussie) so other country's sites are probably not going to work for me.
Any sites that are taking bets on Zidane to not finish the season?
He is a principled guy and Real Madrid's offseason is not going well by the apparent ultimatum he issued Perez upon re-signing, I can see results being poor and Zidane being unhappy with his backing in the transfer market. But I can't find a market on his employment. I'm an Aussie by the way so my options are limited. I'm thinking one of the bitcoin based betting sites might have it? I'd be licking my lips if I found him listed at $5 to not finish the season with Madrid.
